I made reservations for a 1 night stay on our way to Maine for our honeymoon. We arrived very late and to their credit, they were very nice and polite.
When we got to our room it was hot at the A/C was broken. We were very hot and tired and were only going to be staying a few hours since were would be leaving early the next morning to continue our trip to Maine. I phoned the front desk and a guy came up to check A/C unit. Obviously there was nothing he could do since it was midnight. He said the front desk would call us. We waited but got no call. My husband finally called the front desk again and was told there was nothing they could do since all the rooms were full. I expected at least for them to offer us some sort of discount or a free breakfast or something, but all they said was that we could talk to management in the morning.
Well there was no way we were going to be able to sleep in that room. It was a cool night, but we couldn't leave the sliding door open because 1. people would be able to see inside our room, and 2. other guests were yelling loudly across the parking lot from one balcony to another.
We decided that we would leave and just drive through the night to Maine and demanded our money back. About 20 minutes into our trip, the hotel called us and told us that management had approved our refund. Now why is it that they could get a hold of management about a refund in the middle of the night, and not about our problem to begin with? It seems like they could have offered us something anyway, to compensate us for the A/C problem without talking to management, but they didn't offer anything before we left. That was a big reason for us leaving, because they just said "there's NOTHING we can do.".
It also seems to me that someone should have realized there was no A/C in that room before we got there. Cleaning staff or previous guests? I think its even likely that they had given that room to other people who then complained, and were moved to other rooms, because isn't it odd that the only room without A/C was the very last one available? If they had known the A/C didn't work, it would have been nice of them to let us know beforehand so that we could have tried to make other arrangements.
I did give the rating of 3 stars because it seemed clean, the beds seemed soft from when I was sitting on it for a short period of time, and its really unfair of me to judge the rest of the hotel from our brief encounter.
Don't get the last room available or it might not have A/C.
