“Terrific on the water-beach Bed/Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2007

The review is of the Beach House , with 11 rooms (if I recall correctly )of the two properties, the other B&B named the Winstead Inn which is located about a mile back from the beach has a medium-size outside pool in a great garden setting both inns are in Harwich Port, Ma on Cape Cod. Room #5 queen bed ,a picture is on their website, on the front second floor was a comfortable size, great views, overlooks Nantucket sound, private bath/whirlpool. Morning continental breakfast was fruit, juices, muffins, coffee/tea, cereals held in a great first floor living space so all the guests could enjoy together. We also were shown several other bedrooms with some great views. Make sure you ask about the westview, next year a condo will be built on the east side so that may be a problem. A short third of a mile walk to town. VERY friendly employees, Highly recommended.May be the best b&b on the cape.

I picked this place because of the picture on the website and when I got there, it looked nothing like the picture which was a B&B with a wide expanse of beach. Well, I even asked about it and was told, yes, the picture on the website was altered.

Not only altered, altered to remove the properties on either side and put in the ocean to look as if they are the only property on a large stretch of beach. Not a good feeling when you are paying $300 a night and you instantly see they have been deceitful.

As I was holding the brochure up in front of the building while I was there another guest came up and said, "I know what you are doing." and I said, "I said, yes, pretty deceitful.". He said," It is beyond deceitful, it is fraud."

Honestly, if they had not been so dishonest about their website picture it would not have been so bad but, I was mad at being duped. The sad thing was, we had a death in our family and I was taking a family member away for a few days to try to relax and rest and de-stress.

Also, while walking down the main hallway, stepping into diningroom, there is dark carpeting that hides a change in elevation from the hall to the dining room. I saw more people trip or fall over that and one elderly woman fell and hurt herself. I said to a staff member, You need to put a sign or something, so many people fall and he said, we tell them when the check in.

  • Liked — It is on the ocean but just a small wedge of beach, not what was shown on web and brochure
  • Disliked — Rooms we had was quite small

All guest feedback is taken seriously. To the question of our "Fake picture", nothing is fake at all. In order to show the front of the Beach Resort (ocean front with lower deck built into the sand) and the beach together, we had to combine the two real photos of the property. The photo has now been removed and replaced with a single photo to avoid any future concerns of misrepresentation what so ever. Most of our guests think the photos don't do the property justice.

Right on the beach. A private beach. A warm water beach. The views from the deck are just beautiful. The rooms are a little cramped but so what, who cared. This place is it if you want to be right on the beach. Clean, comfortable and friendly. Many rooms have a view of the Nantucket Sound.
You also have access to the inn that is two minutes away in town. Here there is a beautiful pool scene as well as larger rooms and beautiful common rooms.
The cost may be a little high but it is well worth it. The location is just tops bar none.
A nice continental breakfast is served.

Cape Cod is full of beautiful beaches, but the special ones are tough to find for the uninitiated. Surprisingly, there are not many lodgings (and boy, did we look) that match a scenic oceanfront location with above-average accommodations, making the Beach House a welcome destination.

Although not a rival to a large luxury hotel, this small inn certainly has ambiance and charm to satisfy discerning travellers. Coffee and fresh muffin in hand, you can step right off the lovely porch and terrace onto the sand - as close as you can be to the ocean without being in it! Hammock and Adirondack chairs on the beach provide perfect spots for reading or wine drinking. The inn is flanked by a public beach access on one side and large, New-England style homes on the other - walk one way and experience the hustle and bustle of summer fun, walk the other and feel like it is just you and the gulls...

Harwichport is a sweet town with good restaurants, and is close to the upscale shops and amenities of nearby Chatham and Brewster, as well as a great variety of ocean and bay beaches.

We stayed in two different rooms with distinctly different decor. Go for one of the two upstairs rooms with private balconies, or a ocean-facing room on the first floor. Doubles are a little tight, and do have dark paneling and finishes.

Hosts David and Greg were very helpful with all requests, and the young staff (we especially liked Rudy) were cheerful and accommodating. All in all, a very good experinece. We would stay again.

Doug and Greg, the Winstead Innkeepers, have only one flaw--they are Red Sox fans, but they can't help it. Otherwise their place in tops for service, location and all-around comfort. They will go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. You can find bigger rooms and the cable TV lacks HBO, but for a wonderful beach, a delightful, beautifully landscaped pool that so few people use you would think you have it to yourself, an unbeatable location mid-Cape with a two minute walk to a charming and thankfully unpretentious little town and to one of the Cape's best restaurants, and hosts who really want you to be happy and come again as we did, this is the place.

My husband and I stayed at the "Inn" part of the Winstead Inn and Beach Resort for 4 nights last summer. I immediately fell in love with the entire place. Our room was gorgeous and so clean, with a beautiful decor. The 2 person hot tub was clean and spacious along with the rest of the bathroom. The pool was out back and again was clean and well maintained. A very good alternate to the sand on the beach. Very quiet and relaxing. The entire staff was so nice and so helpful. They really take pride in their resort. We will definately go back to the Winstead. The pictures on the website I will agree are a bit deceiving once you arrive. but everyones web site was the same. They take the best pics they can to represent their resort.
However the Inn is well worth the price. Thanks guys for a great vacation.

Stayed for two nights while touring Cape Cod. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room was small but very clean. A bit noisy in the hallways and between rooms. Continental breakfast in the morning is nice. Location is right on the beach which is the biggest plus. We travel extensively and would rate the overall accomodations as average, with an outstanding location. More like a small hotel, not a B&B.
