Our Family just got back from a 7 night stay at Bentley Brooke over President's Week. We sublet the unit from a family which had a last minute conflict. This was our second stay at Bentley Brooke over President's Week; and I just have to say that it was probably the worst vacation that I've had in years.

Before I get to the "dirty" detailts, let me just say that Jiminy Peak is a great ski area for families. The slopes are well care for; and the ski school was great for the kids. Bentley Brooke is situated right at the bottom of the slopes, which is why we chose this area. It's also kid friendly with a smimming pool and game room.

The problem unfortunately is that Bentley Brooke is simply filthy. When we stayed last year, our room on the first floor (very close to the front desk) was infested with mice and rats. In fact, after we arrived we found mouse and rat droppings all the floors and cabinets. I presume that management was aware of this problem since our room was right in the front of the hotel. Anyway, we called and they sent and a cleaning crew and an exterminator to deal with the problem. They also told us not to leave any food out and discard the garbage before we left the room, as if I needed to be told that!

This time, we were given room 2421 on the second floor. No mice and rats, but the room was filthy! The sheets were stained, the mattresses were used up, the carpets were filthy; and the room obviously hadn't gotten a good cleaning in months. Also, the room was very close to the pool and it was constantly musty.

But the biggest problem was that the entire family got sick from the dirt, dust and molds. In fact, I ran the jacuzzi in the bathroom and black mould came out of the pipes! Totally gross! I myself had such a severe allergy attack that I was sick as a dog by the third day. So much for skiing! I asked for another room, but of course there was nothing available because it was President's Week! I asked for the manager, but of course he wasn't available. The housecleaning manager came by and offered a free cleaning; but he refused to steam the carpets or the drapes, so what good would that have done! Ultimately, we gave up and left a day early. Two days later, I'm still sick as a dog! What a disaster this vacation was!

Bottom line: Definitely go to Jiminy Peak! There are plenty of places to stay near the slopes. But avoid Bentley Brooke like the plague!

We visited Bentley Brook for the first time during President's Week 2008. We have 2 children, 11 and 7, and chose the resort for its ski in/ski out location, family-friendly ski program, amenities and price. This was probably the busiest week of the year and the resort was sold out. On Sunday, Jiminy Peak broke their all-time sales record. In other words, there were a lot of people, but the resort handled it well.

We loved the resort from the start. There are few options in New England for luxury ski-in/ski-out at this price point. One thing to be aware of is the lift that services Bentley Brook is the main lift for the kids ski school, which runs 9:30A-3:30P. Since the resort was packed with kids, we waited a long time in line, easily 20 minutes, just to get to the main high-speed "6-pack". So we took to carrying our ski's the 5 minute hike up the hill. We were very impressed with the snow making and grooming, considering the amount of rain this area has had. Monday it rained 24 hours, but within a day the snow was fine.

This is not a huge resort or ski mountain, but for families like ours where the kids are still learning, it was perfect. We could easily go back to the room when the kids got tired, cold or hungry. There's a washer/dryer, so during lunch we could throw the wet socks and mittens in the dryer and have nice warm ones when we went back out. If planning to use the all-day kids ski program, book early, because it was completely sold out the entire week.

We rented a 2BR condo through a Wyndham timeshare owner- the location and amenities were fantastic! I had not been to Jiminy Peak in 20 years- and, wow! We really loved the resort. I will concur with other reviewers that the walls are paper thin. We stayed on the 4th (top) floor in the newer building. The other guests were very considerate and we didn't find it to be a problem. The place was fully booked, but the front desk staff were very accomodating, and there were trails/lifts where you could avoid the ski traffic. We had dinner at John Harvard's, and although the food was good and the prices were reasonable, the service was terrible. Overall, we loved Bentley Brook and Jiminy Peak, and will definitely be returning.

This is our 2nd trip here in 4 years, and we came before in the summer but being here in the winter during the week before the holidays was wonderful. We stayed in the main building which allowed us to walk to Jiminy Peak ski area, which also has a mountain roller coaster. We enrolled our kids in the skiwee program and could see them from our unit 2341 which was a 2 bedroom and 2 bath. The Master bedroom has a King sized bed that was comfortable. The jacuzzi tub fits one person and opens up to the bedroom. The enclosed toilet and shower were a little tight for my 6 foot 4in 285lb husband, but he didn't complain. The 2nd bedroom was a nice size with 2 double beds, and the living area has a pull out coach and a balcony. There is a large dining room table, and and open kitchen. The indoor pool was adequate, but nothing special. They have a movie theater that shows free movie with free popcorn daily. The game room is in need of some better games and atmosphere. The exercise room is alright but the equipment is sparse and it does have a steam room. The resort also has an outdoor hot tub that is huge and nice to dip into after a day of skiing and snowboarding. They have ongoing activities for the family, tours, snowmobiling and ice skating nearby. It is a distance from the stores but no more than 20 minutes. We didn't have reception but I travel quite a bit and always have a calling card for such occasions. There is also another ski/snowboarding resort nearby called Bosque. Overall the property is in good condition, the room I stayed in was clean and well maintained, not to mention a great location to all of the amenities, and the staff was extremely helpful and patient. We also didn't get any calls for timeshare tours.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2007

We just returned from a stay here on Thursday. The only reason we went is because a friend had to use up her time share points by the end of the year. We rented 2 two bedroom suites, one for the adults and one for the children. They were generic small aparments with a small balcony. Ours overlooked the mountains (great view of all the novice skiers falling) the kids overlooked the parking lot, but they didn't care.

The suite itself had a few issues with low quality appliances that were loud, pots and pans that everything stuck to, a freezer that I couldn't adjust so everything had freezer burn by the second day. Small things. I was only there for 5 days, any longer than that it would have really irritated me. Also, they claim to have activities scheduled, and they do, but they are things like coloring and dated movies. We were going to participate in a poker tournament, and when we arrived it was a 15 year old dealer, a 3 year old and a 5 year old at 9 pm. We just assumed it would be geared more towards adults at that time of night.

The morning after we checked in some guy came to the room and started asking us questions about time shares. I squashed that quickly and he wasn't too pushy. My friend went to a presentation and did get a 15% discount card, which came in handy when it cost us about $500 for all of us to ski for 2 days.

Kids loved skiing, and we could walk to the rental shop. That was perfect. They also loved the hot tub. And the best part if you are in building 27 you can watch them on the bunny slope without having to go outside.

Would we go there again, sure. Would I consider it wonderful no.

  • Liked — Close proximity to the Jiminy Peak Village and slopes - we could walk in less than 5 minutes.
  • Disliked — Dated furniture and substandard appliances.

We spend four nights over Thanksgiving at the Bentley Brook Mountain Club. The resort is located at the best possible location to ski the Jiminy Peak. Jiminy Peak is open for the season already. The condition is not great but they sure made an effort with snow guns blazing all day and night since Friday night. You will simply work out of your unit to the lift. It is great! Check-in was very fast but we have to wait 15 minutes for our room. There is free internet in the lobby to occupy our time. Our unit is right next to the indoor pool with great mountain view. The resort has outdoor pool, outdoor hottub that open all year long, indoor/outdoor pool that is popular with Fairfield design, recreation room, small theatre, fishing pond. There is a lot to do even if you are not skiing or snowboarding.
Our unit is two bedroom has everything we need and it is hugh but with a smallest balcony. The full kitchen has everything we need but has dining seating for four. There is three of us is great and roomy but the unit can definitely sleep eight with king bed, two queens and sofa bed in living area.
