Nothing was great; nothing was bad...generally unremarkable, but I really prefer supporting local businesses. Give it a try...

“Great Value, Service, Decent Food, and a Filthy Floor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2011

My wife and I went to the Berkshire Arts Show and stopped here afterward for lunch. We were seated immediately and a waitress quickly came, gave us menus, and took our beverage order. Breakfast is served throughout all business hours and the breakfast orders looked great. we had already had breakfast and opted to order off of the lunch menu. My wife ordered a grilled cheese and I ordered the Avocado melt. Both came fairly quickly. My wife said that her grilled cheese was decent. It came with chips and did not look like anything out of the ordinary. My Avocado Melt also came with chips. It was very good and substantial. There was a generous amount of Jack cheese and avocado. Our waitress was very friendly and on the ball. the place is rather small but has a very steady business. Prices are very reasonable and it does look like a great place for breakfast. As for lunch, it is pretty average. The one thing I did not like was the cleanliness of the floor. It was dirty! There were napkins and straw wrappers on the floor when we came in and they were still there when we left.

“Always a delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2011

For my husband and me, breakfast dates are absolutely the best. Not only does a good meal start the day off right, breakfast is usually a reasonably inexpensive splurge: a plus in this economy! And for literally years, our favorite breakfast spot, bar none, is Martin's! With breakfast served all day (though a lunch menu is also available), breakfast lovers will find something to tickle their fancy, from hearty steak and eggs and eggs Benedict, to bagels and lox, whole wheat fruit pancakes, yummy waffles with whipped cream (and real maple syrup), freshly squeezed juice, gluten free selections, wonderful omelets with additions including avocado, shallots and all sorts of yummy cheeses. And in addition to good coffee, a wide selection of teas is available.

While fresh fruit is available, it is a little pricey. But, this is a small matter. The service is cheerful and efficient, and the servings, generous. Only during peak times, when the place can become jammed, the wait for a table can be long, and the atmosphere can suffer a little from noisiness - it is a small place, and a crying baby's voice carries a little too well. But as long as Martin's is there, so shall we be, every week, without fail.

“We went to Martins and had a wonderful...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2010

We went to Martins and had a wonderful breakfast. I had the egg mcmartin and my wife had fresh blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup.

2 days later we repeated and her pancakes were too thick, undercooked and lousy. There was only 1 of the same wait staff there so maybe there also was a different cook.
It was hit or miss so your mileage may vary

“An overrated little breakfast joint.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2010

Always searching for the best breakfast in the Berkshires, we read the reviews here for Martin's and decided to give it a try. We drove the 20 miles to Martin's across three weekends in a row for an early breakfast (they open at 6AM, a real positive for us). We were sadly disappointed. The eggs were bland and possibly served from a steam table, and scarily undercooked (read: almost half of the serving uncooked) on one occasion. The bacon was perhaps the most disappointing: it was served burnt and brittle on all three visits. On the third visit, the bacon was not only burnt, one serving was burnt and the three slices fused into a slab. Weird. And I suspect that the bacon is mass cooked in advance, because a replacement request on the second visit yielded an instant return with a new serving. The fruit cup, expensive ($4.50) for a very small cup, was variable across the three visits .. hit or miss. The toast was "foamy", usually an indication of the use of stale bread. The home fries were OK, small in portion, but OK. The fresh-squeezed OJ was a hit, and the coffee was good on two of our three visits. Now about the blueberry pancakes: out came a stack of three pancakes, with the top one undercooked (not browned in the least - it was white) and folded in half and hanging off of the plate. The blueberries were mushy (as in almost liquified) and gobbed together. Hey, you don't have to be Jordan's of Bar Harbor, but good grief, if you can't make pancakes, don't put them on the menu. Regarding the service, we were never there during a breakfast rush, but the second and third visits included slow service (almost 20 minutes before food was served on visit three). On the third visit, the waitress took our order, returned 20 minutes later and served us our burnt bacon and undercooked $8 pancakes without comment, and stopped by about 10 minutes later to refill coffees as she moved across multiple tables with the pot. Never asked about the strange pancake and burnt bacon stack sitting on a napkin in the middle of the table; maybe she was used to it. But she shouldn't have left the kitchen with that order in the first place. Oh, and to complete the excitement of visit three, the whole place was subjected to a ten minute session of incredibly loud banging from the kitchen. What's up with that? Sigh.
