We chose Allium for an evening meal on a stopover in Great Barrington after overhearing one of the cafe staff in Massachusetts Museum of Modren Art sing its praises, and we were not disappointed. The menu was varied and interesting without being overwhelming and had a good mix of lighter salads and plates as well as more substantial dishes. We had the truffle and pecorino popcorn as a starting snack which was delicious (and generously portioned). For main my husband had the burger which was intensely flavoured (and came with addictive bacon jam) and I had the hanger steak which was perfectly cooked and a well proportioned plate with interesting sides and delicious sauce. For dessert I had a semi-religious experience with the salted caramel ice cream. The service was quick and excellent - happy to explain the menus without making you feel stupid for not recognising ingredients, and the menu reflects their support of local farmers & food producers. The bar was well stocked & had a good range of whiskeys & some interesting cocktail choices. I only wish I was local so I could go back to try some of the other interesting menu options.
