Walking back for the firewooks and boat parade we stumbled across this jem. Serving untill midnight it fit the bill. The service and food were great and well priced.

“Best Kitchen on Cape Ann”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2009

There are other restaurants with better views, and if you don't like heavy curtained bistro-style, you might not be wild about the decor. But I have been here many times now and was never disappointed. I am sure this is the best chef on cape Ann, and perhaps farther afield too. He always gets the seasoning just right - not afraid of the pepper pot, but doesn't overdo it either. I'm told he is Brazilian. If so, we need more Brazilians.

My wife tells me they don't change the menu often enough (and it's not a long one). There's always enough intriguing choices I never noticed. I'd still give it 5 if they only changed it once a year.

“Great Food and Soft Jaz”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2009

There are many great restaurants in Gloucester, but this is the best. In the years we have visited this charming fishing village we have tried many restaurants, but the Franklin stands out. From your greeting at the door to the quality of the food and service it excells. The addition fo soft jaz music makes it a perfect evening. We tried the lobster bisque, topped with pieces of fresh lobster, the mixed green salad with goat cheese and soy vinegarette, and many of the entries including the cod and fresh wild salmon. Each dish is perfectly prepared and properly presented. The wine list is small but full of value and quality. The staff work as a team and insure your evening will be enjoyable. It can get crowded and I recommend reservations especially on friday night. Smart casual attire.

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2009

My fiance and I came here all three nights of our vacation in Gloucester, once just for drinks, and twice for dinner. Our last night in town, the night after we got engaged, the bartender and the chef were so sweet to us, and really made us feel special.

It's a very nice, casual-but-upscale ambiance, a little romantic, just really gorgeous inside. The servers and bartenders are friendly but not overly in-your-face, and the food is SO GOOD. The tuna steak and the sirloin are delicious. And the drinks are fun and taste great -- try the Spiced Pear!

“Perfect in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2009

The Franklin Cafe has some of the best food you can find on the north shore. I especially love the Cesar salad, mussels, calamari, and steak frites they serve there. The staff is very nice and service is pretty fast, but no fast that the food is bad. The atmosphere is great and some nights, they have live preformences from local artists. Also, the prices are reasonable. If you ever go to Gloucester or anywhere in the area and you're looking for places to eat, forget the McDonalds and head for the Franklin Cafe.
