“Great Seafood in friendly neighborhood restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

We were looking for good seafood dinner without breaking the bank and Halibut Point fit our desires exactly. My wife and I had a great meal at the bar among friendly regular patrons who made us feel right at home. Their chowders are supurb, including Portuguese style fish stew. Great broiled fish and enormous sandwiches. Meal was perfect end to a great day exploring Gloucester and Rockport. Even a October swim at Good Harbor Beach.

“An OK Lunch in Gloucester”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

Parking is always at a premium in downtown Gloucester. The service was above average, beers were very cold but the food was nothing special. Our group had the reuben sandwich which was served cold on rye bread. The Halibut Point Lunch Special was the best deal -a sandwich, cup of chowder and a beer for $18.

“Bar with OK bar food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Had dinner at Halibut Point last night with a friend. It was still light out so we sat in the outdoor tables which are hidden from the street by a high fence & some plants. Very nice but I wouldn't want to sit there after dark when the mosquitos come out despite the citronella candles. We started the special drink of the night, the Jim Beam Honey Tea Whiskey Lemonade. Served in a 16 ounce glass over ice, it was delicious with a strong taste of whiskey. We shared a garden salad with blue cheese dressing which was only OK. One of the 2 tomatoes had a rotten side and a couple of pieces of lettuce had brown edges. After pushing those aside the salad was OK, nothing special. Boxed croutons, bagged lettuce, red onions, cucumbers, and a good dressing with many blue cheese chunks. We also had a Reuben Pastrami, sauerkraut, swiss cheese & thousand island dressing served on untoasted dark pumpernickel bread. It would have been much better if the bread was toasted but the filling did taste good. Our 2nd sandwich was a steak tips on a roll with lettuce, red onion, & blue cheese dressing. Steak tips were very tasty, cooked medium rare as we requested but the rest of the sandwich was pretty pedestrian. Bill was $47. We enjoyed our meal here & would go back but don't expect fine cuisine.

I always like to find the place the locals go and this is it. Great bar tender, beer, chowder, and locals! All friendly.

“Expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Very pricey and they were out of two of the specials. What we had was good but I really wanted the shrimp special!
