I had heard about the castle from relatives that had visited here so I couldn't wait to see it for myself. It can be a bit difficult to locate, but once you are there you are immediately drawn in for an adventure. Please allow several hours to explore every niche and staircase and to read all the plaques. Even my daughters (11 & 12) enjoyed exploring the castle and the grounds. I personally fell in love with the courtyard and the ocean view when I stepped around the back of the castle.
After visiting the castle we headed north looking for a place for lunch but stopped to explore the Stage Fort Park. The girls and my hubby had fun climbing the boulders and looking for shells among the seaweed covered rocks. From here we took a short drive north into Gloucester where we took pictures of the Fisherman statue and ate at a roadside stand across the street. Our lunch of clam strips, crab cakes and crab salad sandwiches while sitting on the front deck with an unobstructed view of the ocean was fabulous.
