“Fantastic & relaxing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2005

We have stayed at the Blue Shutters many, many times. The inn's location, directly across from Good Harbor Beach, makes the environment soothing and relaxing. A walk on the beach with your feet carressing the soft sands and the warm gentle waves while enjoying the sun makes the inn's location perfect for those discriminating people who wish to get away from it all.

The owners, Mary & Joe Giglio, as well as the rest of the staff go out of their way to make sure your stay with them is comfortable and relaxing.

The ONLY good thing about Blue Shutters Inn is that it is across the street from lovely Good Harbor Beach. Other than that, you're sleeping on an awful bed with scratchy bedding in a room with dirty 30 year old shag carpeting, broken down furniture and a filthy air conditioner. Your so-called breakfast consists of the likes of Wonder Bread and rotten fruit. It's no wonder the owner insists on payment the moment you arrive. Do yourself a favor--pay a few more dollars, walk a few blocks to the beach. You're definitely worth a good night's sleep in a clean comfortable room.

Mild weather brought us to the seashore for the holidays. Our Blue Shutters stay was so charming and relaxing. Overlooking the beach and convenience to all shops made our stay so enjoyable. Cannot wait to return in the summertime. This place represents a touch of "Old New England" charm. This is not a modern hotel decor, but comfortable.

Well, I'm sorry to say we won't be going back. 2nd time there and it's just gone so down hill. The rooms are musty and overpriced. Bathroom and shower were awful! And there is a smell in the dining area that's as if something died in a corner and nobody's bothered to look for it.
The "breakfast" consisted of stale ceral and toast. Some fruit, but since you had to eat it in the musty smelling room, we didn't even eat there the last morning. I just wanted to get my kids home into their clean beds. I will say, the location is great, but we looked around at some other places right near there and found them to be cheaper and much cleaner! Sorry. They need to throw $30,000 into the place and clean it up!

Outstanding views, awesome sunrises, less than 100 yards from one of the finest North Shore beaches (Good Harbor). Gloucester has many activities, cultural as well as sporting, and the hosts of the Blue Shutters have first hand knowledge of the best and most memorable. Complementary continental breakfast, grocery store, restaurants, liquor store, and ice cream parlor all within walking distance. The 19th century Blue Shutters brings forth all of the bygone ambiance and character and mixes it with a healthy measure of 21st century convenience. Look forward to returning next summer and probably during Christmas holiday season. World famous Rockport Massachusetts, only 10 minutes from the Blue Shutters, has a full calendar of events during the holidays. An exquisite New England treat!

We arrived on a motorcycle for a romantic 4th of July getaway. When we parked the owner basically attacked us for taking "a whole car spot".
Bad.

If we came in a car we would have taken a "whole car spot"! It got worse -- the inside is drab, dingy and nasty. And our "private bath" is publically accessible and across a hall from our room. Bad.

Our room had shag carpet in it that looked like it came from 1979! I feel mislead by the owners, and my companion and I have never, ever been greeted so rudely. Bad.

We left and found a much nicer place just down the street. This was the worst B&B I have ever seen.

In summary, bad, bad, bad.
