Just like the old fashioned paintings of the "shore"! Old sea captain's homes on one side, summer cottages come year round places on the other. Good Harbor beach is wonderful. A deep beach when the tide is low, offering many tide pools for little ones to play in. And when the tide comes in, the surf is cold but fun to play in too! The water is unusually clean and crystal clear...although one year, I was disappointed to find many of the trash receptacles had been removed from the beach and trash was laying all around.
Parking is pricey, $20/day last time I went, and the lot fills up quickly, so get there early. If you're willing to walk, you can park up by the golf course, usually in the shade, for free (only about a 5 minute walk).
My favorite time of day is late in the afternoon, when many are heading home. The sun is still warm and you can lounge in the sand or in the surf, and the kids can play in all the deep holes that have been dug throughout the day. I highly recommend Good Harbor Beach!
