“Shrine Dedicated to St. Anne with and Unexpected Russian Icon Museum”
St. Anne's Shrine is a religious site run by the Assumptionist Order that is dedicated to St. Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary. Pilgrims have come to the shrine for generations in search of physical and spiritual healing in this peaceful atmosphere.
The place is pretty old-fashioned and not what you'd expect to find the the Sturbridge area. The grounds aren't as well tended as they used to be, but they still include prayerful places like the Way of the Cross, a Votive Chapel, a Lourdes Grotto, and Sacra Santa (Holy Stairs) where the faithful go up the stairs on their knees. The site is a fitting place for contemplation and meditation.
The shrine includes a church with a space devoted to St. Anne where those cured have left crutches and other mementos. There is a gift shop where the faithful can buy religious items and behind it is a museum with a fine selection of Russian Icons. The museum is among the best kept secrets in central Massachusetts.
There are facilities for those wishing to picnic on the grounds. Daily Mass is celebrated at 7:30 AM and 10:00 AM. Call ahead for a Sunday schedule.
