“Pleasantly surprised”

ShoreWay Acres Inn

Jun 12, 2007

We stayed at ShoreWay Acres Inn for five nights in May as part of a tour with Page & Moy. Wasn't expecting too much after reading the reviews on this site but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very quiet as the season doesn't really start until beginning of June. Our room was in the block where the indoor pool is and I think maybe these are the best rooms. The Shoreway Acres is a motel not a hotel and the other blocks of rooms all open to the outside and involve a walk outside to the dining room. These blocks are wood built and maybe this accounts for the musty smell reported by some people.

The room was large with two double beds (comfortable), tv, armchair and at one end a table and chairs, fridge/freezer, microwave and coffee maker. The decor is not new and the bathroom a little dated but clean and comfortable. There was air conditioning and heating in the room. Our package included the buffet breakfast which we thought was very good and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

The inn is two minutes walk from the main street in Falmouth, Liam Mcguires irish bar and plenty of other restaurants which is very handy when it is raining! Falmouth is a quaint pretty little town and very clean!

A couple on bus tour from UK 5 nights. Late May 2007

No problems at all! Beautiful gardens and set up. Good room 145 just off the passage from the indoor pool. New carpet and bathroom door. Very clean. Good comfortable quality beds and linen. No noise from next door room or above.

Dining room is below the pool. Reasonable decor. No stains from the pool onto the ceiling and no musty smells.

Food for breakfast more than adequate. Self service other than waitress for coffee. Menu for hot food changed daily. Only scrambled eggs every day- no poached or boiled.

There could be an improvement as the hot food was only tepid. Cold plates and to get into the food you had to remove the top and place it over another closed unit top (which others wanted to get to) and help yourself. Then put back the top. When a group of guests wanted access the Chef resolved the problem by removing ALL the tops. So tepider food.

Solution. Rip out the whole unit and install a new one with lowered plates with heating and new metal dishes with hinged lids and proper HOT heating underneath.

Lots of nice places to eat on Main Street. Liked Betsy's Diner and Liam McGuires Irish Pub with Liam singing to his guitar. Good pub singer. There are some good Italian too and a relatively new Indian set up. All had good reports from our group.

No moans from anyone. Everyone in our group of 20 or so praised the place and owners and staff. It would be better if they had a proper front desk reception as an odd table is not so good. No bell or phone to call for a receptionist.

So go, enjoy and be happy

My fiancé and I stayed at Shoreway Acres while attending a wedding in Falmouth. I have to agree that the setting and grounds of Shoreway Acres are very well maintained, but the rooms are a different story. They are EXTREMELY outdated and definitely smell musty (we purchased a candle at a local drugstore to disguise the smell). The rooms are large and include a fridge and microwave. The motel (I would not call it a hotel, let alone a resort) is w/in walking distance of downtown Falmouth, which was very convenient. There are other motels and bed and breakfasts in the same vicinity, so I would be sure to check out all of your options before settling on Shoreway Acres. One word of advice, if you are staying w/ a group make sure that upon making your reservation you ask that everyone's room is on the same floor or in the same building. When we arrived our group was split up and we were not able to change our rooms to be closer to our friends until the next day. Also, try and check in during the day and/or evening, the late night check in person is interesting, to say the least.

“Stay away”

ShoreWay Acres Inn

Readers, Be Aware!
This resort looks great in brochures and pictures. Actually, the grounds are very nice. Unfortunately, the rooms don't match. The beds were almost painful they were so hard. The spider webs and daddy-long-legs were your roommates. Ammenities such as soap dishes, holders for towels or shampoos and working electric outlets were at a minimum. No lights over bureau mirrors. The rooms smell of mold, and as my daughter and son-in-laws room, also of VOMIT.
We bought Lysol-didn't help. After our second complaint, they
finally washed the rug. They also said mattress had vomit . I don't know who was here before us, but I'm sure someone had to clean this room before our arrival and definitely should have reported this. Maybe they did, and this is just an acceptable problem for management. Well, it's not pleasant to have to sleep with nose covered all night. After third night asked if anything else could be done. Only solution, another room for additional $80. This is the worst stay I've ever paid(dearly)for.
Management never followed through with problem and not even an apology. "STAY AWAY"

I can't figure out why people stay at this place. It's close to the beach and town, yes, but so are other places that are MUCH nicer. This place is like a joke of a hotel with so many kitschy elements it could be a movie set.

Room: theft proof hangers, teeny bars of soap wrapped in paper, foamy man-made blankets, hard pillows, plastic flowers.

Breakfast buffet was in a basement dining room with a moldy smell (the pool is one floor above..) with dark flowered carpet and the kind of chairs you see hauled out for bad wedding receptions.

And it is NOT cheap. I wouldn't believe the reviews you see that are positive - do not trust!!!
