The Beach Rose Inn
West Falmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Situated on a quiet, tree-lined dead-end street in West Falmouth, The Beach Rose Inn offers guests a charming and lovely respite in Olde Cape Cod.
The rooms in the main inn are bright, romantic (but not gauche) and airy with comfortable beds and private baths. A room air conditioner is provided for sultry summer nights, and a charming “faux wood stove” (it’s actually an electric heater) takes the chill out of those cool summer evenings. Rooms in the carriage house each have their own entrance, offering guests additional privacy.
A light-filled veranda with wicker furniture provides a soothing place to relax and enjoy a morning coffee. And the coffee at The Beach Rose Inn is outstanding. Provided by Cape Cod Coffee Roasters of Mashpee, the coffee is delivered to the inn once a week – fresh-roasted.
Falmouth center, with its restaurants and boutiques, is a ten-minute drive. Woods Hole is also about ten minutes away. But my boyfriend and I decided to pedal our bicycles along the scenic, quaint roads until we reached the salty little port with its renowned oceanography center and daily ferries to Martha’s Vineyard. (A former railroad-trail, just outside the inn, is to be transformed into a bike path 2008 season, which will link West Yarmouth to Woods Hole, carrying bicyclists through beautiful fauna and wild landscape.)
Innkeepers Sheryll and Douglas Reichwein, Cape Cod Natives who have owned and operated the Beach Rose Inn since October 2006, are friendly and gracious hosts. Sheryl cheerfully shares area “insider tips” to guests interested in exploring greater Falmouth and beyond, including the Cape’s secluded Outer Banks, the artistic alternative village of Provincetown, and Martha’s Vineyard (the inn sells ferry passes to Martha’s Vineyard, departing from Woods Hole).
During our visit, Douglas was busy building a new deck that, when finished, will offer guests outdoor dining overlooking the beautifully landscaped, lush backyard.
A pleasant young staff keeps the guest rooms clean and serves the breakfast that Sheryl prepares. As two traveling vegans, we appreciated the soy fruit-yogurt, homemade granola (maple syrup; not honey!), soy milk, and delightful fruit salad that were presented to us each morning. We observed nonvegan guests enjoying French toast, what looked to be a vegetable/egg frittata, and bacon (not soy bacon, though, so we abstained!). Fresh juice and tea were also offered, along with the fabulous coffee. We also appreciated Sheryll and Douglas’s extra accommodation of a small refrigerator in our room for our own vegan snacks (and beer!).
We chose The Beach Rose Inn for our four-night stay to be nearby relatives, who were visiting from Ireland, and staying at a seacoast resort/conference center three miles away on Old Silver Beach. Initially, we had considered staying at this same resort, but after reading mediocre to poor reviews about this resort on Trip Advisor, we opted not to – and instead discovered the lovely Beach Rose. We were not disappointed (unfortunately, our relatives who stayed at their seacoast resort were disappointed).
The Beach Rose Inn is a wonderful place to relax and lazily explore Olde Cape Cod. We departed the Beach Rose feeling soothed, calm, healthy and refreshed. We happily recommend this delightful inn to other visitors seeking similar experience and who could appreciate a comfortable and soothing alternative to nearby larger and impersonal resort accommodations.
