“Great people and wondertime times and town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2009

I had the good fortune of staying in April at a B&B called the Captain Tom Lawrence House in Falmouth, Mass. It was truly a great spot with a wonderful breakfast and the rooms were clean and beautiful. The folks who run the place were great in helping find spots for dinner or to come with suggestions about what to visit while I was in the area. It was located near the ferry parking and I took a great day trip to Martha's Vineyard.

While on vacation in Falmouth, MA we stayed at the Capt. Tom Lawrence Inn. Our experience was very mixed. The innkeepers were very nice and polite but the male innkeeper seemed to be somewhat two-faced and seemed to rush us whenever we encountered him at breakfast, however the female innkeeper was very sweet whenever we encountered her during our stay.
Meals were very delectable, just the right size and portions to give you a kick start for your day. Jim and Anne, the innkeepers, were very knowledgeable about Falmouth and the surrounding area as well as things to do and places to go.
Jim and Anne offered guests bicycles to be used on the Shining Sea Bikeway, although they did not tell us that the bikes were not
mountain bikes are 1 speed cruising bikes with back-pedal brakes. When the male innkeeper went to get the bike I would be using, he did not offer
to adjust the seat for me, or show me how to use the bike since I had never seen a bike like that before.
The TV size wasn't bad and it had many cable channels. A great way to relax after a long day at the beach
or around town. The size of the room was adequate and the bed and pillows were comfortable, the pillows and comforter were clean and neat. The mini-fridge
was a useful addition to the room, and the bathroom in the room we stayed in (the Anaconda) was adequate though somewhat small. The sink, shower and toilet
were all clean, though it felt somewhat cramped at times.
Over all, it was a nice place to stay but I don't think we would stay there again unless they lowered their rates.

While this review was overall complimentary, a few of the comments were a bit of surprise. This was a young pleasant couple who had not been to a B&B before and who seemed to be enjoying their stay. We both had pleasant conversations with them and certainly didn't mean to rush them, as they seemed to perceive. We would suggest that if they stay at a small B&B in the future, that they bring any concerns or questions directly to the innkeepers who will be happy to assist them.

Jim and Anne were very kind and helpful hosts. Assisted us in locating nice trails to walk along and excellent restaurants. Delicious breakfasts. Alto room was quiet, despite the house being on a main street and next door to a convenience mart. Walkable to town and trails. Tasteful decor without being too fufu (spelling?). Great value. We'd definitely stay there again!

Lovely place to stay when visiting Falmouth. We stayed in the Captains room which is plenty large enough, located on the first floor in the back of the house and has a very comfortable king size bed with great sheets.

November is a very quiet time down the cape and there was no noise to speak of. Anne and Jim were very pleasant hosts and helpful when we needed it. We are also are innkeepers and are very detail oriented. It was wonderful to stay at a place that we could not find anything to pick apart.

Other reviews mentioned the size of the bathroom. They too must have stayed in the Captains room . The bathroom is very small, but it is an in-room bathroom rather than down the hall. These old houses were not built to be inns and when the concept of B&B's became popular folks did not mind sharing a bathroom in order to save money while traveling. Now everybody wants a bathroom in the room and innkeepers are doing the best they can to give guests what they want. When we checked in, none of the other guests had yet arrived so we checked out all the rooms (noisy innkeepers that we are). All the other rooms had larger bathrooms. If you are on the larger size, you might be better off booking one of the other room.

Another review mentioned the amenities. They do have shampoo, makeup removers, and two types of soap, one a glycerin soap from Fuller Soap company that I have also used and am pleased with, the other the cashmere bouquet. Stick with the Fuller's. I think they also had a body lotion but I always bring my own. There is a little convience store next store in case you forgot anything.

Breakfast was very nice. Real plates and silver, napkins, crystal juice glasses and plenty of coffee. They serve a fruit dish followed by your main course with a baked goodie. The breakfast were good but not gourmet.

We are dancers and every November there is a dance event at the local seaside resort which we try to attend. This year we decided to stay off site and be pampered at a B&B. Very happy we did and looking forward to seeing Ann and Jim again next year.

Note: The only reason we did not give an excellent rating was that there were no bathrobes provided and refreshments were not available. I love a cup of tea in the afternoon and missed not having one. Recommend they offer a little hospitality station for their guests and have bathrobes available.

Needed a B & B that would provide two beds as I was traveling with a relative - we really lucked out with the Captain Lawrence House.

It was very cozy and the owners were more than friendly and helpful. We had to meet with others and used the Inn's living room and even their dishes to serve a snack to our guests.

Anne and Jim were very gracious, They were happy to provide us with directions and suggestions for dinner.

Breakfast was excellent!

Highly recommend this B & B!

Captain Tom Lawrence House has everything you expect for a Cape Cod historic inn. It is located just a few minutes walk from the delightful village of Falmouth where there is an abundance of good restaurants and stores. The charming house is full of character, and our host Jim was delighted to tell us about its history , including the "widows's watch" which crowns the roof.
Our room was nice and clean, although the bathroom was rather small in comparison. Breakfast was more than satisfactory and Jim even gave us a lift down to the ferry so we could leave our car behind while visiting Martha's Vineyard.
