“Final days on the cape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

Our final days on the Cape were spent in the inn. We found our room small but clean and very well kept. The bathroom was very small. Tom and Ann were very sweet and offered good advice on sightseeing. The breakfast were delicious and well thought out. You do have to share tables, but found other couples interesting as to what they were visiting. Plenty of parking. We were told we could leave our car after check out if we wanted to go into Woods Hole. We did have trouble get Internet in our room, but really didn't need it. Also, it would be nice to have either kitchen access or ice and water available. Both place we had stayed previous to arriving had let us use the kitchen and had ice and jugs of water. Still, it was a beautiful, well maintained inn. Would definitely recommend to friends and would stay again if we're ever lucky enough to get to the Cape again.

Being New Englanders, we often wait for the last minute to make a weekend escape to the Cape, counting on cancellations or "best-kept secrets" to find a room. Capt. Tom Lawrence was fully booked except for one room (Captain's) that apparently receives less attention due to an acknowledged small bathroom (see below). BUT, it's a nicely appointed king room at the (quieter) back of the house and it suited us perfectly. Ann & Jim are gracious hosts who have taken obvious care with their property. This lovely Victorian lies within walking distance of downtown (which is a plus since driving and parking in town are challenging). Ferry shuttle parking is also relatively close by. They provide local maps, guidebooks, menus, and brochures for Cape attractions and free on-site parking. Breakfast is prepared with an obvious attention to detail and served with a smile. You may find yourself sharing a table with other travelers, as the set up is two tables for four and breakfast is only served for the hour between 8:00-9:00, but we met friendly and interesting people this way. I was most impressed by both Ann and Jim's habit of consistently referring to every guest by our first names; I felt they thereby had made an effort to welcome each guest as warmly as if we were friends just paying a visit. We have stayed at many, many B&Bs and not encountered this type of personal touch. Lovely and charming.

About the bathroom in the Captain's Room: it has clearly been squeezed into a former closet to satisfy guests' need for an en suite bath. Therefore, the commode is tightly wedged between walls and the shower stall measures approx. 24 x 28". If you are a bigger person you would be challenged but for us it was adequate and the room itself was lovely and as spacious as we would expect in a house of this era. As my husband put it when I made the reservation, "We're not going to sleep in the bathroom!" In our case, the trade-off was more than worth it.

Captain Tom Lawrence House was our second stop on a 2-week road trip. Being from Miami, FL, the NE area is very different from what we're used to! Jim & Anne are amazing hosts and their property is immaculate and charming. They provided loads of of tips and recommendations for the area. Downtown Falmouth is close enough to walk and has great restaurants and shops! The close proximity of the B&B to Cape Cod "must-sees," is a definite plus - we were able to visit Chatham and Martha's Vineyard during our stay. Incredible service and breakfasts!

Room Tip: Bathroom in the Anaconda Room is a little tight but well-equipped.

The inn is charming -- beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. The breakfasts were delicious and truly of gourmet quality. Anne and Jim couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly hosts and gave us great information on where to go and how best to get there. The only minor drawback was that we were in a room at the front of the house on the lower level and noticed a fair amount of early morning truck traffic going by, probably headed down to Woods Hole and the Vineyard ferry. Nevertheless, this is a fantastic area for proximity to many Cape attractions and a very nice property. Falmouth is a lovely town.

Room Tip: Upper floor is probably quieter.

The wife and I had our first B&B experience at the Captain Tom Lawrence House. I can't say enough about it. Jim and Anne gave us absolute exceptional service. They went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed and that we had a great time on the cape. They helped us plan some portions of our trip, helped us get tickets across to Martha's and Jim even was nice enough to drive us down to the docks to make sure we made our transfer. The location is great. Walking distance to the downtown Falmouth restaurants and shops and a quick 5-10 minute drive to Wood's Hole. The breakfast was great. My wife is a vegetarian and they had no issues accomodating. The room itself was nice and very clean. The bed wasn't the best but we had no issues catching some shut eye. Of course if you haven't been to Mass in the Summer get ready for early mornings as it get bright REAL early.

Overall I'd say the trip was an absolute win. I'd recommend the CTLH, Jim & Anne to anyone looking for a great B&B on the cape.

Enjoy!

Jim and Anne make you feel very welcome in their home. Falmouth is charming and Anne gave us great advice of places to visit and things to do. The breakfasts were amazing! We would definitely come back. Rent a bike and ride along the bike path!

My family and I spent last weekend at the inn. Everything about it was just wonderful. Anne and Jim are lovely hosts who went out of their way to accommodate some special eating constraints we had. We were so surprised and very grateful. The breakfast was absolutely delicious.
The inn itself is beautiful, clean and conveniently located. The beds were really comfortable.
We will definitely be back!!

Room Tip: The room we stayed in on the first floor is beautiful. The only minor drawback is the tiny bathroom...
