We arrived in Falmouth on Saturday for a week's stay, picked up Boston Magazine's "Best of Boston" issue and saw that the Coonamessett Inn was listed as the best Sunday brunch on the Cape. I went with my family the next morning and am not inclined to disagree with the verdict. The food was excellent, the price was quite reasonable ($20), and the room pleasant enough. There was (not surprisingly) quite a bit of seafood: an assortment of smoked fish and cold shrimp as well as one hot entree (salmon in a sun-dried tomato sauce -- not the best of the offerings, but still good). Along with the usual salads there was station with grilled vegetables and grilled french bread -- a unusual touch. In addition to the salmon, the entrees included a chicken dish, eggs benedict, and a carving station that had lamb and ham. There was also the obligatory omlette station as well as waffles and pancakes for those who want to pretend they are eating breakfast. Deserts were spectacular: several cakes, an apple crumble, and strawberry shortcake.
Brunches can be rather grotesque affairs, but the Coonamessett's brunch was a pleasant start to our week on the Cape.
