“beloved and worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Essex, MA claims to be the home of fried clams. The fried clams at the Village equal and often surpass the meals served at the nearby clam shacks. Plus, the able table service makes it a standout when compared to the clam shacks. They also serve up haddock in a variety of ways. My haddock Elizabeth was quite yummy. . A wonderful pot when visiting the North Shore of Boston.

“What a surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

We were tired and need a little fuel. We stopped to get a cup of coffee, and decided to add the portobello crostini. It was absolutely delicious, huge and plenty to share. Would stop here again in a heartbeat.

“One of Rte 133'2 Best Fried Clam palaces”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

If you are on the quest for fried clam nirvana, you've got to add this spot to your list. The Village is right up there with woodman's, the Clam Box, Esses Seafood and Farnham's. Which ever one you prefer you get a full bellied clam freshly battered and fired with tartar. Can't beat that.

“Great seafood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

They have some very unusual fish dishes. Cod cheeks, fried oysters. All fried food is delicious. The location is great on Main St so a good location if you are going antiquing or just going on a river cruise. It is also nice to sit inside after a day out in the sun.

“A huge disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

We hadn't been to the Village restaurant in years but it always seems busy so we stopped one hot night this week. Seafood seemed like the right choice but it didn't turn out that way.
My husband's grilled haddock was overcooked, my flounder was tasteless, the mashed potatoes lukewarm and even our ten year old granddaughter who would eat Caesar salad three times a day complained that it was limp lettuce swimming in dressing. So much that it was puddled in the bottom of the bowl.
The one bright spot was the waitress, pleasant, smiling, and attentive.
