“Gorgeous hotel just don't eat the food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

We stayed Sunday through Tuesday during this past Memorial Day weekend. The hotel is lovely, location can't be beat and there is plenty to do. You can spend the whole day at the beach just down the hill from the hotel front door or sit with a book on the front porch in a comfy rocker and enjoy the ocean breeze. The outdoor pool is big, plenty of loungers and nice, thick towels. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Complimentary coffee and tea is served until 11am in the main hotel building. Free Wi-Fi. We stayed in the Governor Mayhew building behind the historic hotel so our experience was more like an upscale Holiday Inn but everything in our room was luxurious and clean. The walls are thin, you can hear the people upstairs throwing their suitcases around and if you get a room near the exterior doors you will be treated to loud door banging all night. Sadly, the dining room is gorgeous with fantastic views but the food is crazy awful. My Eggs Benedict were runny, cold and portions were skimpy. My homefries were overcooked, dry and then served cold. My husband said the only good thing on his plate was the strip of bacon. Prices are high and the place was moderately busy so they really need to do better. I would highly recommend it if you can get a AAA discount and go just before or after the high summer season. The location in Edgartown is perfect, ten minute walk to the main drag and lots of pretty houses and gardens to enjoy. Just don't eat the food. Walk down to Murdick's and get an egg and bacon sandwich and a bottle of orange juice to go.

Room Tip: If you can't stay in the historic hotel building, go for second floor and away from central stai...

The Harbor View is a wonderful hotel with in an awesome setting!! We greatly enjoyed our stay. Try to stay in the main hotel, though. The porch is to die for with its chairs and view!!! Wow!!

My wife and I enjoyed two totally carefree days at the Harbor View Hotel & Resort. Starting with Amanda, the hotel manager; to Todd and Darlene our awesome concierge, to the thoughtful care of our bartender/waiters, Steve and Mike, we experienced great comfort, fantastic vistas, and first-class care from everyone on staff. Wonderful restaurants and great strolling town. Residents and merchants of Edgertown are thoughtful hosts. The only down-side was that we didn't schedule a longer stay.

I've been here twice with my wife in the off-season; once in late fall, and once on St. Patrick's day for the tiny parade and the film festival. The room price was quite reasonable while the weather was cold, yet this hotel felt like a splurge. We just loved the decor in the main building. The room is filled with luxury touches from the soap to the pillows to the souvenir water bottles. Perhaps the best part is the friendly check-in and bar staff, who remembered us on our second visit months later and recommmended activities for our trip. We took a stroll around the sandy spit and lighthouse, and then bundled up on the porch on a wicker couch with a bottle of champagne from the bar, gazing over the water. The food is fresh, local, tasty and interesting. I liked the choices of draft beer too. They have a Sunday brunch.
A good salon and a good pub (The Newes from America) are a few short blocks away. I recommend bringing your car if you want to explore the island, as cabs are not always available. Parking is not a problem in the off-season.

Room Tip: We loved the rooms on the top floors of the main building.

The location is the best! The staff is 5 star! All together, this is an incredible resort. Every person whom we encountered, from valet, housekeeping, front desk, waiter and hostess were all so professional, happy and welcoming. A world class resort, run with white glove service and Island Happy Atmosphere. Not exactly inexpensive, but so worth it.

Room Tip: We had a 2 bedroom suite on the back side of the pool. It was a wonderful, spacious, clean, new and...

We went to the Harborview in May during the week and was able to get a bed and breakfast package. We stayed in the main hotel, but did not choice to spend $75 more dollars for a harbour view room. The room was beautiful and we thought it was well worth the extra money to be in the main building. We were happy to have the money we would have spent for the view for dinner. The beautiful porch with the views is only steps away and the seating is very inviting. If we did not have the breakfast package,we would have gone elsewhere, as the items were quite expensive.

The staff was wonderful and knowlegable about the island. All in all, a wonderful getaway.!!

Room Tip: stay in the main house on 2nd floor so you can walk the stairs.l

We spent three days prior to the Memorial day weekend. The inn is beautiful. The room was very nice and had a beautiful view. I wish I could say my balcony was inviting. There was a table and chairs but they were dirty and the balcony needed washing down. Also, after the first day the cleaning of the room left something to be desired. Toiletries that were in the room were not replaced as well as the sugar and cream. We had to go to the front desk to request items which were given with a smile and no apology. The food in Henry's was very good and I would definitely eat there again. The staff was very helpful in giving directions and recommendations. They just need to better train the cleaning staff in order to earn 5 stars from this visitor.

Room Tip: Unless you are in the main hotel, which is more costly, there are no elevators. This was not a prob...
