“Great location, good value in Edgartown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2006

We found the Colonial Inn to be exactly as represented. It is an old inn which has been kept up well. The rooms are small; not surprising for an older facility. We particularly enjoyed the 4th floor deck overlooking the harbor. Colonial is only a block from the waterfront and is in easy walking distance from the shopping and restaurants in Edgartown. We would not hesitate to stay at the Colonial if returning to Martha's Vineyard

We stayed at the Colonial Inn Sept. 23-25. Lovely property and great location! Rm 404-very clean, spacious room. Beautiful bed, bathroom was roomy and very clean. They had wooden blinds on the windows if you wanted to keep the sun out in the morning. You could open the windows which was wonderful, very airy. The 4th floor has a veranda with adirondack chairs and tables-beautiful view of the harbor. Restaurant on the property and continental breakfast in the morning, juices, coffee (not very good) , muffins, danish, cereal etc... We ate at Atria (exellent meal, but pricey) and David Ryan's (less $$, very good meal). Also, for lunch at Seafood Shanty and in Oak Bluffs at Fishbones. Take the bike trail to Oak Bluffs ,gorgeous ride. MV is very expensive, so be prepared, but it is so much fun and pretty. The Wharf and Navigator are fun for drinks.

The room was poor and the staff's attitude was HORRIBLE! I would never stay here again, nor would I recommend it to friends. Go to the Vineyard, but stay away from the Colonial Inn.

well, i was really concerned by the reviews. we only stayed one night. the location is excellent, and the lobby is lovely. we stayed on 1st floor. the corridor to our room was a bit grim, passing kitchens and toilets but the room was lovely. a bit dark, but the bed was clean and comfortable a real comfy feel, this is definatley a inn not a hotel. the bathroom was huge. for me the negative was the breakfast. very limited the bagels were definately stale, and only 3 chairs and tables off a corridor. you definately felt uncomfortble sitting in that space. thankfully it was early and their wasnt a lot of people, but someone did keep coming through the eating area with bags of washing etc. in fact i did wonder if with was the breakfast area at all at one point, because my husband and i actually walked past it. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful but i wouldnt want to stay here for a week if you know what i mean. overall thought the room was excellent and really relaxed decor.

We went in May, just before Memorial day. The weather was awful - the coldest May on record. We had two days of wind and rain where we only left our room to eat. The worst nor-easter storms in 38 years. Other than that it was fine. We stayed at the Colonial Inn - it was nice. The rooms are a little small, but the people working there were very friendly and I liked the location. They give you a free Continental breakfast, which was good.

We booked this hotel through expedia and got an excellent deal as it was out of season. When we arrived we were impressed with the way the hotel looks and its location but our room was a disappointment.

The bed seemed smaller than a queen and was pushed against the wall allowing access by only one of us. The tv was propped on bedside drawers and rattled whenever we moved around. The gap beneath the door was large and let light into the bedroom all night making it difficult to sleep and all in all we did not like this room.

Breakfast was adeqaute but as the weather was poor there were only 3 tables inside for seating so we had to share with other people. Bagels were nice though.

We would return to Edgartown but we would not stay in this hotel again unless guaranteed a better room. In hindsight we should have asked to be moved but the room was not dirty or below standard, just small and cramped and we figured we had got what we paid for.

The Colonial is the hub of Edgartown. It's sit high on Water Street and is only a few footsteps from everything in this quaint town.
The hotel has a beachhouse feel to it. It's has a cozy lobby and friendly staff. Someone will come down to the ferry dock and carry up your luggage. The hotel has some major art galleries in the lobby.
Our room was great. It was a one bedroom suite that overlooked Water Street. The room had a clean, white feel to it.
Don't miss Chesca's the restaurant at the hotel. I think this is one of the best places to eat on the island.
If you want front and center in Edgartown, you have found your hotel!
