“Perfect place for visiting Vineyard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Let me first start off and say the Winnetu property is situated on a beautiful stretch of property. The service was very good, the location is perfect for biking into town.

The rooms ($700.00 per night) are not worthy of a four star rating. The showers are preformed plastic, not tile. The is no fan in the bathroom (MOLD??). The rooms are average, clean but 3 star only! It is a perfect family resort for a quick getaway.

Getting to Martha's Vineyard by car is an abomination! If you book last minute on a holiday weekend you may be forced to take a 30 minute bus ride from the parking lot on the mainland, to the boat itself. I am astonished that the Ferry/Massachusetts operators cannot accomodate visitors by buying up land closer to the actual ferry! Again, we did not drive over on the ferry! We decided to not bring our car, so we were at the mercy of this antiquated parking system! Biking to and from the hotel is not a problem, and the shuttles do run like clockwork!

Alchemy is a good choice for dinner! Breakfast is very limited. No sit-down air conditioned places to eat your eggs or pancakes!! Odd! Won't visit again soon. My advice is to stop and stay in Newport.

We were not happy with the accomodations. For the price we paid, we expected more. Although the room was large, the furniture was old & worn, the wall to wall carpeting was old/worn & dark brown & the room was dark with very little natural light. The furniture on the deck was plastic.
From the reviews & the website we were expecting a beautiful room with all the amenities.

Everyone that worked at the resort was friendly & helpful. And the location close to the beach was great. An easy walk.to South Beach.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor with natural light.

Booked 4 nights at the Winnetu on South Beach. As we got off the ferry and got hustled by the throngs of taxi drivers, it was hot and humid and we were really impatient to get there. (Winnetu does have a shuttle service, but it was booked solid over the holiday weekend.) Driving down the long driveway, you get a feel of peace...set back from the road, with sprawling lawns, the place just looks like a retreat. Check in was easy, and we were whisked up to our room (301). The room was large, kind of like a reverse Embassy Suites, with the bedroom in the front, bathroom/sink/fridge in the middle, and living room in the rear. Large deck off the back looking over a large lawn, trees, and the ocean. This is not a beachfront property, but it is only a brief walk away through a wooded path.
Beds were comfortable, pull out couch and convertible chair worked fine. AC was a little funny, and we had a hard time getting it just right...one night too hot, then too cold, the next night too cold, then too hot. Fridge was noisy, but we got used to it. Towels were plentiful, bath amenities nice, water pressure poor (3rd floor) and housekeeping was exceptional (Agnes). We ate at the Lure Grill one night, it was very good (Thanks Lindsey) and the manager was around constantly but unobtrusively, making sure everything was perfect. Lunch at the pool grill was disappointing, they ran out of lettuce (how does that happen??) and service was slow. Had breakfast at the café off the lobby one morning, it was quick, and delicious. Staff interactions were all great, friendly hellos and personable interactions by all. Even the shuttle that drops off downtown Edgartown and back had great drivers...Micah and Lucas were friendly, informative and a pleasure to deal with. the third driver we had was also very friendly.
The room was noisy...doors slamming on the corridor outside, and being at the top of the stairway made it a high traffic area. Several times I woke up with a start at some noise or another.
To sum it up, a room that was a little better than average, + exceptional staff and facilities and grounds = a great time had by all. I would return.

Room Tip: 3rd floor had a great view, but the 1st floor patios looked fantastic.

My husband and I celebrated our 32nd anniversary at this resort, staying in one of the Aquinnah suites (top floor) with a phenomenal view of the ocean. The suite was spacious and comfortable with every convenience we desired. We loved the balcony and would often sit out there just thoroughly enjoying the incredible view of the ocean. We absolutely loved the food in the Lure Grill. Everything was so delicious from the entrees, desserts and even the breads accompanying our meals. Our only wish would be that the resort would offer room service to those staying in the resort itself. Staff throughout the resort were always gracious and immensely helpful--from the managers on down to the maintenance staff. We were pleasantly surprised to have free WiFi and more selections on cable TV than we had when staying in a Hilton in Boston just days earlier for a conference. We loved the fact that the resort is located away from the hustle and bustle of Edgartown. We appreciated that the staff offered great suggestions on activities both at the resort and across the island, including maps and other brochures. We were impressed with how well they maintain the resort and the surrounding grounds. Everything looked new to us. We definitely want to return to the island again in the future and we definitely plan to stay at the Winnetu!

My last time in Martha's Vineyard was twenty nine years ago but never forgot how beautiful it was especially the Gay Head Cliffs. I wanted to share that beauty with my family. I made the right choice booking the Winnetu Oceanside Resort. We booked a studio room. Upon arrival to our room, I expressed concerns with the warm temperature in the room and within minutes maintenance staff was in the room. We had a great time at the beach. The first time we walked through the pathway but the second time we drove our car there because we did not want to carry chairs, towels and buckets. The beach water was a bit rough but clean and quiet. We enjoyed the area around the turtle pond where my children played. We had dinner at Lure Grill. There is a designated area in the dinner room where the children can sit and watch a DVD or color in between dinner courses. We ordered chicken fingers for my son but he did not like them. We requested grilled cheese, although not on the menu, and the chef made the grill cheese for him! The view from Lure Grill terrace was beautiful. After dinner, we went to the Activities Center where my children had a blast at the pirate playground, shot basketball hoops, and played with lacrosse sticks. We made S'Mores and rode the property Firetruck. We also enjoyed Edgartown, the drive to Gay Head Cliffs, and the flying carousel. One night we made use of the resort library by playing chess and boardgames. We will definitely make every effort to return to Winnetu and recommend this resort to all especially those with children.

I stayed at the Winnetu with my wife and two years old daughter and we loved it. The premises is located in a wonderfully located part of the Island in the middle of the green with a beautiful path leading to the beach front. Within 2 min we were on the beach; even though you have to cross a little and very quiet road this walk is easy even for little toddlers - in fact our two year old loved that little hide-and-seek walk through the woods.

The suite (number 110) was located on the West Chop and faced the garden on the ground floor which was very convenient for our kid to run around while we parents had still breakfast. The rooms are nicely decorated and the entire hotel is even more beautiful than the website presents it. We were overwhelmed and will return for sure.

Excellent service, friendly staff, great accommdations, and good food at the Lure Grill! Great place to take the family to relax. You will love the island. The concierge arranged for us to use a resort vechicle to self drive around the entire island, which was a great way to see the island. It enabled us to visit all six town on the island. Our favorite restaurants on the island were the Alchemy, L'Etoile, Seafood Shanty, Atlantic Fish & Chop House.

We have already booked our stay for next year!
