“Great location, helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2009

Right downtown...step out the door to shopping, restaurants, bike rentals. Easy walk to wharf and ferry to Falmouth and Chappy. Continental breakfast wasn't very good -- cereal and bagels. The staff was incredibly helpful. The pool was closed when we were there, which was a surprise. I would check next time. Parking was easy and convenient. The room was nice.

We loved the Kelley house. Our room was wonderful. The location is awesome. Right on the water, next to the Chappy Ferry. Our kids took a craft class at the sculpin gallery right next to the hotel.

The breakfast was really great. When our friends visited, the staff was gracious enough to invite them to have some breakfast too. Really elegant service. We routinely took our breakfast out to the pool and lingered.

What's not too like? Definately a vacation to remember.

I would absolutely recommend this B&B! Two thumbs up. Location is unbeatable, service goes above and beyond. The rooms were very clean, oversized, and luxurious. We had plenty of space for myself, husband, and 2 year old to sprall out and not feel cramped. The hotel was very clean and well furnished. The atmosphere was "Martha's Vineyard Picturesque." Visiting in October, so the fireplace was always roaring, guests sitting in the main common area curled up with a good book, hot coffee/tea/etc always fresh and available. Breakfast was fantastic and the staff would always ask if there was anything else you needed.
What made this stay, by far was the service!

Distinct Good and Bad:

BAD:
Walls so thin you cant sleep - can hear neighbors conversatins word for word
Halls echo a ton - LOUD also even with just 2 old people talking in it at 7 AM
Maid knocks on door and tries to come in even though the "Do Not Disturb Sign is up"

Good:
Location - best to walk everywere
Bed - like the W hotel
Nice bathroom soaps/shampoos - gf liked them
Free breakfast stuff that is marginally better than continental
Cookies at night
Loan out umbrellas at night when it rains

Might stay here again..not sure. Was pricey at 235+ per night

The Kelley House was a huge disappointment, from our experience making a reservation to the time we checked out. For starters, we tried calling, and never managed to speak with anyone who understood how to make a reservation! As a result, it required no less than 4 phone calls to finally book a suite. After being told on the 2 prior calls that a suite was available - but I was then disconnected - I was told on the last call that I was not allowed to book a suite because there were not enough people in my party! What difference should it make as long as I'm willing to pay the daily rate?! Finally, we spoke to a manager, and were able to book our reservation. When we arrived at our $425/night suite, there was a plastic garbage bag lying on the porch where the entrance was located. Inside, was a tired looking, old 2 room suite, with few amenities, other than the Occitane shampoo, conditioner and soap. The shower and tub were grimy and old. I suppose what has happened is that the owners are spending all their time and money on the newly renovated Harbor View Hotel & Resort. The result is that Kelley House has poorly trained or poorly informed staff, and the grounds are looking sorely in need of a makeover. The location of the Kelley House remains wonderful, as it is right in "downtown" Edgartown. But I would not stay there again --- next time I'll try the Harbor View!

There is a lot to like about Kelley House. The rooms are large and clean. The staff is courteous and professional. The location is in the center of Edgartown. The Concierge was extremely helpful. The rooms were well furnished and the beds were top notch. There were a few items that were less than excellent. We did not know there was no elevator, and, being on the third floor with the only ice machine on the first floor was a minor annoyance. The cleaning solution used in the rooms smelled strongly of bleach, but did indicate that everything was clean. The morning "breakfast" wasn't worth bothering with although the tea in the afternoon and the milk and cookies in the eveining were fine. The pool water was cloudy (I am fussy about this.) We recommend this facility highly.

Edgartown was charming, but there are very few places for breakfast and the lines were long. Across the street is the Sea Shanty which is fun for food and drinks on the top level deck overlooking the harbor.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Kelley House over memorial day weekend. We booked the cheapest rate in the garden house and were worried that it would be dumpy because of the rate. It was great. We took the edgartown ferry and the hotel was 100 ft off the dock right in the center of town. Everything in edgartown was right there...restaurants, lighthouses, and shops. Edgartown was much nicer than oak bluffs, but oak bluffs seemed to have more going on. It was a quick 10 minute bus ride into oak bluffs and the bus stop was just up the street. We really couldnt beat the location of this hotel. They had cookies and milk at night and a nice continental breakfast in the morning. There was also a great pool just outside the hotel door and free parking. The first night we stayed on the third floor and the second on the first floor. The first floor room seemed to be much noiser though. You could hear all of the guests going up and down the stairs by our door. The hotel also had a book full of restaurant menus in the lobby which was great for out of towners. While you're there go down to the kelley house's sister hotel, the harbor view. you can sit on the porch in a rocking chair, grab a drink and app. from the bar and look out onto the harbor and light house...so relaxing and beautiful. We spend 3 hours here just socializing and relaxing. I would certaintly stay at the kelley house again!
