“Bringing it all together.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2011

The experience of a stay at the Kelley House included the House's center of Edgartown location, the fine décor and ambiance of the House and its grounds, the excellent amenities made available to the guests, and the wealth of Vineyard information dispensed. Our enjoyment was really elevated though by the great staff at the Kelley House and the service provided. Steve, the Innkeeper, sets the standard and he and his staff provide five star service in a friendly and welcoming way showing a personal interest in each guest as they do.

Room Tip: Partial water views are available so ask when you reserve.

This was our first vacation that included a daughter-in-law (raised in Southern California, and completely new to the Northeast) and eighteen-month old grandson. We'd always vacationed on the island when our sons were growing up, staying at a different facility. But we all vote the Kelley House NUMBER ONE on the Vineyard. It is situated in the heart of everything in Edgartown, and has a wonderful pool together with a private shaded dining area. Unlock the gate and run across the narrow street to the clam shack to order lunch and bring it back! Every night at 8 o'clock we dropped whatever we were doing anywhere on the island to dash back for the world's best chocolate chip cookies and ice cold milk served from a glistening silver samovar. The staff is fabulous, and even put my son's family in Rm. 210, which can been seen directly from the lobby. This allowed us some flexibility once our grandson fell asleep for the night.
My husband confided to me later that he'd always eyed the Kelley House during previous vacations and wished we could stay there. The ambiance is terrific, and we even brought back a lace-cap hydrangea like the ones that surround the main building. When President Obama vacationed on the island in August, my son sent me a one-line text that said if he was smart, he'd get himself over to the Kelley House for cookies at 8. We couldn't have hoped for a better family vacation, and the Kelley House played a major part in making that happen.

This was our second stay in the Kelley House because the rooms are so modern and well-kept. But it is the service that sets this Inn above the rest. We have stayed at many of the other inns over the last 8 summers, and the Kelley House staff, Charlotte, Cassie and the exceptional manager, Steve, all remembered our names, made sure we were enjoying our stay at every turn and even asked what they could do to make it better. Time after time. When we were late for the tasty nighttime cookies and milk, they went and got some for us anyway. And before we left, Steve brought a coloring book and crayons to our son as he said farewell, again with a familiarity that is rare these days. They go the extra mile, and mean it.

We originally rented a house in Edgartown for a week. The day we were supposed to leave hurricane Irene hit and we got stuck on the island because the ferries were not running. Then we lost electricity at home in Ct. so we decided to stay an extra night. We stopped by the Kelley House to check rates because we loved the in town location. Steven, the Inn Keeper could not have been more helpful and gracious. He showed me the room choice and gave us a fantastic rate due to our circumstances. He won us over and we are thinking of staying at the Kelley House next summer instead of renting a house. Our room was a one bedroom suite on the first floor. It had a huge bedroom with a king bed and a flat screen tv. It was the most comfortable bed ever and great bedding. The bathroom was large as well and even though the suite was not renovated it was the cleanest I have ever seen a hotel room. They had great all natural shampoos and soaps that I loved. The kitchenette was incredibly equipped with a microwave, toaster, plates, utensils, refrigerator, dish soap and sponge. If on a budget you can definitely stock the kitchenette with cereal and yogurt and sandwich stuff to save from going out to breakfast and lunch. The living room was large as well with a queen pull out sofa, desk and a hutch with a flat screen tv. As I said the room was not renovated but still in great shape except some stains on the couch a few knicks here and there. We got a great rate so it didn't bother us in the slightest and since we have 2 young boys we didn't have to worry about ruining anything. There are renovated options at a higher price. Like I said the room was as clean as can be. It also had a nice outside deck with a table with 4 chairs, and 2 lounge chairs. It was so perfect for our boys to play outside on the deck and to eat at the table outside.
They serve muffins in the morning which are yummy as well as the cookies and milk in the evening. Such a nice touch.
The location in Edgartown cannot be beat. Right out the door is so many boutiques, galleries and places to eat. We did eat at their restaurant which was the only dissapointing thing in the hotel. It was packed so I don't think anyone else cares. The food was so so. Our sandwiches came out with soggy cold french fries and when the server came back with new ones they were hot and soggy not crispy like we requested. He just said the kitchen was slammed. Not a good excuse when you are paying those prices. Anyway there are plenty of other places to eat in town. There were also fruit flies which bothered the next table tremondously but not us as much.
We were able to use the pool at the Harbor View House which was beautiful and much bigger than the one at the Kelley House. They also have food service there. It is just a short walk down the beautiful street.
We cannot thank the inn keeper Steven enough for all his kindness and help. All hotels should have someone as wonderful and helpful as he! We hope to go back next year!

Great bed, room size and terrific location. We also had fresh coffee and gourmet muffins in the morning. Would recommend to others.

online photos look old but the kelley house looks so much better in person. front desk staff was very professional and knowledgeable. room, bathroom and bed were big. some minor issue of cleanliness including moldy shower curtain liner and stained toilet bowl. pool water was a little murky. guests in adjoining room were loud but one call to the front desk fixed it. breakfast muffins were high quality. all in all good value. great location.

My family (mom/dad, 2 teenagers + their 2 friends) stayed at the Kelley House the first week of August and were delighted with our entire stay. Checkin was quick, staff was very courteous, cheerful, and very helpful with restaurant suggestions and how to get around the island. Steve B the Inn Keeper was very attentive to our needs and gave us excellent suggestions on things to do. We stayed in the Court House suites and had a 3 bedroom/3 bathroom suite. The rooms were very clean (pristine) with comfortable beds. The suite featured private bathrooms for each room and bedrooms had large flat screen TV's. Air conditioning was very good. Top floor room had nice views of Edgartown harbor! They serve complimentary coffee and muffins in the lobby each morning and wonderful cookies each afternoon. They have a salt water pool that we did not check out. Edgartown is a beautiful seaport town with many small shops and great dining choices - all withing very short walking distance (5-10 minutes tops). Dining at L'Etoile was fantastic and so was Chesca's. Getting around the island is easy- just buy a day pass on the bus service (there is a terminal just a few blocks from the Kelley House) and you are 15 minute rides to South Beach or Oak Bluffs. There are plenty options for car/moped/bike rentals in Edgartown as well as boating activities (water ski, jet ski , tubing, etc) at Oak Bluffs. We plan on returning to this Inn and strongly recommend it.

Pros - wonderful and clean rooms, comfortable beds, great location. Best of all was the excellent staff who did all they can to make your stay enjoyable! Lot's to do with shopping in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs, South Beach is fantastic, and you must do the 2nd Bridge jump on the way to Oak Bluffs.

Cons - none!.
