“Location, location, location - relaxation at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

No, this is not a real estate review, but when traveling away from home, to an island, where you probably won't have your vehicle, location can play a big part. My wife and I recently traveled to Martha's Vineyard. We drove to Falmouth and took the ferry to Edgartown, which dropped us off at Memorial Wharf. We chose to stay at the Kelley House, which we could see from the wharf! Just a one block walk and we were there, dead center in Edgartown. We were surrounded by restaurants and shops and gorgeous landscaping in all directions. The location could not have been any better. Literally a few seconds to get to an ATM, ice cream, breakfast, bars, a wine shop, fudge, clothing shops, and some fantastic restaurants which ranged from French, Italian, American, Seafood, and both more upscale or kid menu friendly.

How about the Kelley House? We immediately noticed how clean it was. Now most places we've stayed at are clean and housekeeping typically does a very good job, but there was something about how clean everything looked. Our room overlooked the pool and the ocean, filled with yachts and sailboats. We never heard any of our neighbors, the king bed was exquisite and we even had a small refrigerator in our room...a bonus we didn't expect. We had a single serve coffee maker in the room and each morning there was coffee and muffins in the lobby too. Four large towels for the two of us. Bonus again!

We heard there was fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the evening, but we were typically out to dinner at that time. One night we came back quite late....it must have been after 10pm and the front desk person had to go get the cookies so we could take a few with us to our room....to have with the soft drinks we had stocked in our fridge.

Our whole stay - Martha's Vineyard + Location + Kelley House + Edgartown at our fingertips = a perfect stay.

We had a last minute change of plans and ended up staying at the Kelley House in Martha's Vinyard. From the moment we walked into the hotel we were blown away by its quaintness and cleanliness. The staff was super friendly and more than accomodating. We had originally booked only 2 nights and then found out that we were able to stay an additional one. The manager was able to upgrade us into a suite with no problems. THey moved all of our luggage for us while we were out. Everyone was extremely helpful in choosing restaurants, making reservations, giving us directions. It was fabulous. THe location is also outstanding. It is near everything including the bus stop which can take you all over the island. We had a wonderful time and we cannot wait to come back and spend more time. An added benefit was the pool for the kids! Also, every morning there are fresh muffins and coffee!!

Stayed at the Kelley House for our annual girls weekend. Initially, we had a problem with our suite. We then went to speak with the Innkeeper, Steve B., and he was courteous, kind and accommodating. He not only went out of his way to move us to another suite, he upgraded us for the inconvenience. He was apologetic and genuinely cared about our inconvenience. We will return again next year to stay at the Kelley House because their customer service is unsurpassed. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: The Court House First Floor suite is private, renovated and gorgeous.

First time in the Vineyard -- weekend visit for a cousin's wedding -- and couldn't think of a better place to stay. The location was just great -- walk out the door and you've got all of Edgartown in front of you, there's a shuttle to South Beach, and it was a quick cab ride to Oak Bluffs. There's even a little pool which my daughter liked the day we didn't go to the beach, and the WiFi was fine for my wife and myself (tho we had to walk to the sister hotel to use a printer to print out our boarding passed for the flight home). The room was fine, tho certainly not cheap, but hey, it's Martha's Vineyard in the middle of the season. The staff was great.

Stayed at the Kelley House in June for a few days. It was a last minute booking and we were able to get the Spring Deal rate 3 nights for the price of 2. Room was very spacious and quiet with garden view. The swimming pool was a real bonus and muffins and coffee for breakfast were very good. The front desk staff were very accommodating - in particular, Charlotte and the Manager, Steve. Have already recommended it to friends in New York!
Good bars and restaurants nearby and beach near their sister hotel.

Many extra touches to make guests comfortable and happy such as milk and cookies in the evening. The staff is extremely helpful with guidance for excellent restaurants and not- to- miss events and places around the Vineyard. We are looking forward to a return trip someday and would recommend the upgrade to a cottage with a view of the water from the deck. Very nice!

Room Tip: Cottage rooms if available

I recently stayed at the Kelley House and my entire experience was AMAZING!!! When I made the reservation with Darlene she was very patient and knowledgable about the hotel and the area. She assured me that my experience at the Kelley House would be memorable...And she was right!!! Amanda in Housekeeping and Charlotte at the Front Desk were very professional and accomodating. They always greeted my friends and I with a smile and made us feel like it was a pleasure to answer ALL of our questions. Steve Brunelle, the Innkeeper, was very friendly and went out his way to make our visit enjoyable and stress-free. He researched restaurants for us and directions on how to get around. We woke up each morning with a smile from the staff and fresh muffins and coffee. The warm cookies at night were an added touch that was greatly appreciated. As Darlene mentioned when we made our reservations....the Kelley House is a "Hidden Gem". Thank you Darlene, Charlotte, Amanda & Steve. My friends and I will be back again next year.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite instead of a room with two beds
