After we had a very exciting week in New York, we have found in Fort Hill a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the nature around. (Unfortunately our stay was too short.) Ths was our fist trip to the US and Gordon's and Jean's warm hospitality gave us the feeling of being at home. SO we will gladly recommend their comfortable inn to family and friends in Germany.

We have been going to the Fort Hill Bed & Breakfast for about 5 years now after many years of owning our own cottage in Eastham, and we absolutely love it.

Jean and Gordon Avery are among the best innkeepers we've ever met in our travels throughout New England. They are friendly, yet not intrusive, always have great recommendations for restaurants and sights to see, ideas for rainy days, and they have introduced us to new places to go, despite our relative familiarity with the Cape.

Their location at Fort Hill exemplifies the quiet beauty of the Lower Cape and offers easy access to delightful nature trails right "next door". We have stayed in each of the rooms in the house as well as in the cottage and we've always been impressed with the careful attention to detail that the Averys have brought to both the decor and the amenities one would look for on vacation.

And, last but not least, breakfast is terrific. We wholeheartedly endorse the Fort Hill Bed & Breakfast!

I will carry home fond memories of morning matins commencing daily with a solo by an exuberant robin at 4:30 am. Then, later, joined by fellow feathered troubadours such as crows, grackles, mourning doves, chickadees, catbirds, red-winged blackbirds, goldfinches and cardinals in a cacophony of sound.

Later, with a mug of coffee in hand and daily crossword clutched under my arm I crossed the road to perch on a stump in the Penniman House yard. As I'd glance up occasionally from my word sleuthing I'd be jolted anew by the architectural excesses of a French Second Empire dwelling juxtaposed to the spare, clean lines of the Fort Hill B+B's Greek Revival farmhouse style.

I'd chuckle and try to imagine traveling back to the late 1860's and picture in my mind's eye a staid, taciturn New England couple peering through their windows at a garrulous painted hussy flaunting her vulgar tastes!

We stayed at the Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast for four wonderful nights. The inn is a treasure - beautiful, comfortable and relaxing.

Jean and Gordon are wonferful hosts. When we arrived at dinner time, after a long drive, Gordon quickly pointed us to a local restaurant where we were delighted with a fantastic meal. When we wanted to go sightseeing, Jean and Gordon were happy to provide recommendations and they happily made their guide books available to us. We were delighted to find notebooks chockful of places to visit and restaurants to try - all with personal notes from Jean and Gordon.

The inn itself is charming and welcoming. You feel the peace ob being away from the city and are able to enjoy the calm. We stayed in the Emma suite and found it to be comfortable and well furnished.

Jean is an excellent chef. Her breakfasts are different every morning and always hot and tasty...wonderful egg dishes, puff pancakes and more. We enjoyed every bite as well as the conversation around the dining room table.

Jean and Gordon work hard so that their guests can relax. They are charming
hosts and their inn is top-notch. We hope that we will be lucky enough to
visit again.
