“Enchanting!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

My husband and I wanted to find a place to stay that was beautiful and peaceful. A respite from the fast pace hectic world. A place that we could at once feel at home and surrounded by the charm of Cape Cod both inside and out. It was absolutely what we wanted and so much more. We stayed in the Emma Suite which was beautifully decorated and made you feel so much at home. Honestly, no detail was spared with the sitting room, piano, music, books, upscale linens, modern bathroom .... It was actually hard to leave the room with the birdsong and gentle breezes and all those comforts. No attention to detail was spared. But the outside beckons as well with its beautiful grounds and walking trails right out your door that are breathtaking in its beauty. Our hosts, Gordon and Jeanne, are delightful. The breakfasts in the cozy dining room were delightful between the conversations and the delicious food. Absolutely the best breakfast you could ever want. No question that a lot of thought, preparation and detail was given to each breakfast. I can still taste the poached pear and the blueberry croissant pancake. Yum!! It was a wonderful experience. It was truly difficult to leave such an enchanting environment and its delightful hosts. We would go back there in a heartbeat.

Individuals go to Cape Cod to enjoy the ambiance of diverse communities such as Eastham and Provincetown – people book into the Fort Hill Bed & Breakfast as a stroke of luck! While the area hosts a multitude of diversely charming lodgings, it is difficult imagining this particular B&B as being anything other than the region’s crowning lodging jewel. Quiet and slightly off most vacationers’ paths, the rustic New England costal setting on which the B&B is nestled works extremely well with the picturesque facilities and its many amenities. Jean and Gordon are delightfully engaging hosts, and well-versed in local lore. Our quarters (the second level Lucille Suite) were impeccable, and we both found the bed on which we slept ridiculously comfortable. Breakfast was prompt and never disappointing; leading to lively conversations among guests.
Fort Hill Bed & Breakfast may not be the primary reason one visits this particular area of the Cape for the first time, but I found it to have been my PPP (Personal Piece of Paradise); much like that perfect pillow with which one snuggles while engaged in delightful dreams.

We stayed for 5 nights at Fort Hill B&B and enjoyed every minute. The upstairs suite was very charming and comfortable and we enjoyed the privacy of having the whole floor to ourself. Breakfast was always delicious and pleasant, with interesting conversation and a relaxed feel. The house and grounds were beautifully thought out and maintained. Fort Hill is a lovely spot and walking up the hill in the morning to take in the view over the marshes to the open ocean was sublime.

Gordon and Jean Avery and the Fort Hill B&B gave us a grand welcome to Cape Cod. Everything was just as we hoped, maybe even better. The location was great, very quiet with access to trails and views over the seashore. The rooms were beautifully furnished with bookcases bulging with books, and even with borrowing privileges. Jean's breakfasts were works of art ( 8:30 A.M. sharp!) with time for enjoying informative conversations with her and Gordon. We learned about the historic whale boat captain's house across the road, about a good place for supper (it was wonderful), and what to find at the tip of the Cape, whether a lonely unspoiled beach or a jam packed street in Provincetown leading to a cafe featuring " the world's greatest clam chowder". It made our visit memorable, my first in 65 years and my wife's first ever. We hope it won't be our last!

I had a great experience at my recent stay at the Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast and can recommend both the facility and the owners without hesitation. I reason that I favor the concept of a B&B is to get a better appreciation of the community, its people and history. Both Jean and Gordon provide not only this, but a wonderful full breakfast and lovely setting. The room was excellent and it felt like home. If you are staying anywhere near Eastham, try and stay with the Avery's.

Our first contact with the Averys was somewhere between 15 and 20 years ago. We had recalled the experience with fondness and pleasure, and so looked forward to our present stay.
For a quiet restful birthday week, we two octogenarians spent three mid-week days at Fort Hill; our visit served to relive all our pleasant memories!
The downstairs suite was ultra convenient and avoided the access stairs to the upstairs suite (no mean consideration at our age). The entire house is scrupulously clean, with a more-than-adequate supply of bedding and towels (La Coste towels, anyone?) in the rental suites.
Gordon and Jean know how to host without being intrusive, and really know how to serve a memorable breakfast (different each day during our 3-day sojourn, and generous enough to hold us all the way to dinner). Gordon's assisting us with each day's plans, including appropriate dinner restaurants, was a natural addendum to breakfast's second cup of coffee (actually a 3d or 4th cup after the early "cuppa" available in the sitting room an hour before the 8:30 breakfast time).
As both our visits have been in Spring, we may try early Autumn next time, but, whatever...there will be a next time!

My wife and I recently enjoyed a weekend getaway at the Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast. Having a young family, it was our first opportunity in a few years to travel alone together, so it was important to get it right - and we sure did. Jean and Gordon were ever so gracious hosts; the breakfasts were delicious and hearty enough that we were inclined to skip lunch; and the location and tasteful renovation of this historic property left nothing wanting. It is tempting to refrain from contributing review, in order to keep this place secret and available when we will surely return. But to do so would be unfair to such dedicated and deserving hosts. The next time we visit the Cape, we need look no further.
