“An oddly engaging stop in Sandwich.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

This place is difficult to describe. It's run by the Thornton W. Burgess Society to promote an appreciation of nature and encourage conservation efforts. Burgess was a prolific author of children's books and stories that featured animal characters in the natural environment. The facility requests a donation to visit. There is a small museum/art area, but people are mostly just interested in going directly to the jam and relish samples in the gift shop. Burgess's books, jam, and general Cape Cod type gifts are available for sale. There is a lovely little jam kitchen which you can visit as well. The volunteers running the facility are kind and welcoming. In a separate building you can view, through glass cases, animals like snakes and other little creatures. Outside, there are rabbits in cages. There are walking trails as well. It's a quaint, charming place to visit when you're meandering along Rt. 6A.

“Pick up some jam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

Worth a quick stop here to pick up some homemade jams and jellies. They can pack it up for you and ship it, so you don't have to schlepp it home.

“Nice stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

Only make jam on weekdays so we missed that. Did get to taste varies jams and walk around inside (art exhibits) and outside. We didn't have time to do the nature walks but it is a pretty area.

I've been to the herb luncheon a couple of years and have always loved that and the plant sale. The grounds are also beautiful
