We went through Dennisport, doing a little sightseeing on our way to Provincetown on Dec. 30th. It was lunch time and I happened to glance out the car window and noticed this place; we almost passed it. It appeared to be a local "hole in the wall" place, but, as I have learned from traveling, these types of places often offer great food. I was not disappointed, nor were my life partner and a friend traveling with us. The young lady that waited on us behind the counter was very friendly and eager to offer directions to some other places we were curious to see--she also didn't laugh or seem bored with my typical tourist questions. Instead she seemed interested in us and our plans and how she could help out. Her service was fast and most efficient and accurate. Our friend and I each got the Lobster Roll with clam chowder. He got fries with his and I got the onions rings. My partner got fried fish and onion rings. The lobster rolls were fantastic and the opinion rings a very pleasantly better version of so many poorer ones I have experienced in so many restaurants. In fact they were probably the best I've had in a long time. All of us were more than satisfied with the food. My only complaint is that they don't have this restaurant as a franchise here in Florida! One would think Florida would offer such great seafood everywhere, right? Well, being a native Floridian, I can tell you, most places in FL have no clue how to cook good seafood, even with all the miles of coastline we have. What we get is very basic, often times over breaded, overcooked, and over seasoned (MSG seems a BIG problem here too), unless it's served in an ethnic dish of some sort. This New England seafood was 100% American and really tasty. I think my home State's seafood establishments could use some tutoring from this place, not only in quality and taste, but also the huge variety of offerings. It is nice to also be able to enjoy such good food in a restaurant that is not fancy or overly pricey. Original Seafood might fool some people into not coming in because it does appear more of a fast food place than a quality seafood restaurant. Herein lies the huge surprise when one enters it and orders their food. From the chowder to the main course, down to the side dishes, this place will give any fancy-schmancy seafood restaurant some serious competition and, probably, 9 times out of 10--would win.
Seriously folks, if you are on Cape Cod the first time, or, a repeat visitor, you MUST drive through Dennisport and stop here for a meal. It is true New England seafood and you will NOT regret tasting the treasures they offer. Thanks Original Seafood for a great dining experience!
