“Do it for the kids!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

This is a standard Hilton with an exceptional water park and overall kids entertainment center attached. What was exceptional was the staff at this place which deals with tons of spoiled and bratty kids. They have a movie theater, arcade room and buffet breakfast and dinners for the kids. There is nothing wrong with the hotel but you're really going to entertain kids.. Felt bad for the business travelers who were overwhelmed by the families staying there during winter vacation. You should always try to get a cabana at coco keys which gets you a separate area rather than housing all the kids and your stuff at a table in the middle of the water park.. That was $125-150 / day well spent. The hotel has a great package which gives you 4 arcade cards, 4 buffet passes and 4 entries into the pool area.

We really appreciate your high praise of our exceptional staff and water park! We are so glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us during February school vacation week and all of the special activities, like the movie theatre, that we provided. You’re right – the cabanas in the Water Park are great values! We look forward to your next visit!

Check in was a breeze, Janelle was quick and friendly. Got to our family room. Cute set up, very clean. Desk, dresser, and cart that housed the fridge/microwave/coffee pot was pulled out into the middle of the room as though someone went to clean behind it and forgot to put it all back? So after a little furniture replacement, room was spacious enough for a familly of 3. Bathroom clean but small. Comfy bed, nice linens but kind of scratchy.

First thing I did was turn on the TV after reading other reviews that theirs didn't work. Mine didn't either. Decided to just go to the pool before dinner instead. Nope - closed for emergency cleaning. Went to dinner, came back to no TV still working. Called the front desk and spoke to Youness who offered an arcade pass since we were stuck in our room with no TV or pool. While down there, we mention the waterpark the next day and he informs us it is sold out not only for the next day, but for the entire week. We travelled from Maine specifically to go to this water park. When we called with questions, to book the room, again to alter the reservation slightly, and then again to confirm the reservation not one time did anyone mention buying tickets ahead of time. I understand it's school vacation but you'd think I would atleast be given a heads up. I was very upset and Youness was wonderful and got us passes to not only the waterpark but also breakfast the next day for the inconveinence. With that said - thank God they were free because that's where the trip turned awful. I can overlook a hiccup here and there but this whole weekend was one thing after another.....

We went to the waterpark that night....good for kids, SO boring for adults. The only "pool" where adults could relax is a tiny area in the corner adjacent to water obstacle course. It's either that or sit in hard plastic chairs while the kids play. We went back to our room and went to bed. Went to the breakfast buffet the next morning (with our free passes). Food was mediocre at best, cold and bland, the kitchen help would come out of the kitchen to refill buffet items and just cut right in front of you with a hot pan without so much as an "excuse me". Chairs were comfy but table was tippy anytime anyone leaned on one side. I would have been livid had I paid the $18.95 per person. Went back to the waterpark, daughter sustained a head injury and me a knee injury on the double person inner tube slide when we flipped over inside the slide due to sheer speed. The lifegaurd at the bottom didn't so much as flinch as my daughter came flying out of the slide without our tube and was sobbing as she climbed out of the pool holding her head. He was more concerned with us getting out of the landing pool. Took her to first aid station myself and waited 15 minutes at the window with a crying child before anyone came to the window to give me ice. Decided to go to the pool since we were already in our swimsuits and had been bored and banged up enough by the water park. They had just refilled the pool and the snotty blond woman at the front desk said we wouldn't want to go in because it was too cold and scolded us for not wearing shoes "in an active club". Seriously lady, we obviously just came from the waterpark and only 1 person in our party didn't have shoes on. Went back to the room after that, still no TV. Front desk still says they were "updating their cable system" and said it would be fixed shortly (it didnt work the entire weekend we were there). Decided to go to the aquarium in Boston since we had nothing to do in the room, awful experience there as well (seperate review). Went to dinner at Fuddruckers (good), came back to the room and decided to finally use the pool since surely it had warmed up by then. Get all changed, walk all the way to the pool, and the youngman at the front desk says "I'm sorry we just had to close the pool for an emergency cleaning". I almost didn't believe him. Surely it had to be a joke. Nope! Closed again. I asked for his supervisor because this beyond ridiculous. He said he wasn't there. I asked whast his name was. His answer? "I don't know his name". REALLY!? We were already there and in our bathing suits so we went back to the waterpark and let the kid float in the lazy river for an hour or so while we watched "Here Comes the Boom" with no sound on the makeshift movie screen.

We couldn't wait to go to bed just so we could wake up and check out the next morning. We were so excited about this trip and to have it be such a letdown is very disappointing. Besides the kitchen help, all the staff was friendly and accommodating but that will only get you so far. It would take a lot to ever get us to consider this hotel again. Nearly half a dozen of my family and friends were planning a trip here with their family after me sharing my initial excitment upon booking but after hearing of such a poor experience on my part they have all decided to visit Kahuna Laguna in NH instead, where we had a much smoother visit. It's really a shame...we would have loved to make this a yearly tradition. It's infuriating to spend our hard earned money and have a rotten time :(

P.S. More handicap parking needed. My significant other is a disabled veteran and the parking directly in front of the main entrance was very limited. Other parking seemed very far away. Also the hotel signage was not very good on the access road.

Room Tip: All the family rooms are on the first floor. Kids beds are right next to the door, so you do get a l...

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us and for your high praise of our friendly staff! We are always eager to learn more about how to improve our guests’ experiences.

We deeply sympathize with the challenges that you had during your stay and apologize for the confusion that you encountered during the booking process; we do offer Water Park packages that include both the room and access to the Water Park so that purchasing water park tickets separately is not necessary.

When you are ready to return, please reach out to Mariah at (978) 777 2500, so that we can ensure that your next visit is extraordinary.

Stayed here so my kids could go to COCO KEY, the indoor water park. It's attached so of course it's the hotel of choice. It's old, only one elevator if you are staying there solely for the purpose of going to the waterpark, imagine the amount of people waiting for that ONE elevator? Rooms were clean (plus), upon making the reservations you can ask for additional items for your room in advance, one of which were more towels, nada, never got them. Housekeeping where are you??? We returned from the waterpark at 3:30....room not cleaned yet. Called down, we asked that someone come around dinner time as we would be leaving. When do they show up? At 4:30, had to tell them to come back later. Breakfast was included (plus for cost-minus for quality),,,,man breakfast was baaaaad. Arcade for kids fun, prizes limited. Coco key???? Fantastic.....so overall not horrible, not fantastic...what you would expect.

My friends n I took our children there for school vacation. I have to say from the minute we walked in to the hotel to check in we were treated like we were family. We had gotten the Ultimate PKG. We understood that our PKG. included (4) water park passes for each day. For each room. When arriving @ 10:30 in the morning A LOVELY woman named JEANETTE COMEAU informed us that our passes for the first day didn't start till 4:00. We explained to her that we must have misunderstood @ the time of making our reservation. JEANETTE COMEAU was outstanding. She was able to let us check - in ( SHE ALSO PUT ALL OUR BAGS ON A DOLLEY N HELPED US ALL TO OUR ROOMS) and unload our bags and ALLLL our children. Once we got to our rooms one of our TV's was not working and they said they were having a problem with that tv. A GENTALMAN named ANDREW HALL called my room and said they were unable to fix it. We had already unpacked and put all our things in our drawers and closets. ANDREW HALL offered to move us to another room. We excepted his offer. ANDREW came up n helped put all our bags n children back on the dolley . The children felt SOOOOOO special. These @ employees both went way beyond the call of duty. We will all be returning on a regular basis. THANKS JEANETTE COMEAU and ANDREW HALL. It was a pleasure to meet both of you. :)))))))))) It is obivious that you both love your jobs. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. SEE U SOON THANK YOU Tammy Louro & Friends

Room Tip: All the rooms were great clean, pretty, quiet, convenient.

We chose this hotel so we could visit the waterpark on our way to a ski trip in Vermont.
We were not disappointed. The rooms were great with a separate alcove for the kids with smaller beds our family of 5 was able to stay in one room. Our only disappointment was the Tradewinds restaurant, although the decor and restaurant in general was very nice, and the staff were excellent, the food was terrible and really not worth the price. The waterpark was perfect for the 2 hours we spent there with the twilight pass but the bathrooms/changing rooms did not have much space for actually getting changed I would advise to get changed in your room first. The starbucks in the lobby was great for us to get an early breakfast on the go.

Room Tip: If you are a young family of 4 or 5 book one the family rooms, instead of 2 rooms

Though the hotel is very nice, don't do any of the buffets..terrible food..if you sit and wait to eat at tradewinds, where the bar is, your better off..the staff was nice, mike the bartender is amazing, now for the bad way over priced on food etc, really $4 for a chocolate milk, and coco keys, never again, the facility is disgusting, bathrooms dirty, eating/sitting area, dirty..never even saw a cleaning person in two days, lifeguards are great, food way over priced in there, plus you can't even bring your Starbucks coffee you just bought up front of hotel into coco keys, which yup you got out, is right inside the hotel..the chlorine levels are through the roof, both my kids are sick now , covered on what looks to be an allergic reaction to the water, sure the kids had a blast, but was it worth it??? I don't think so, the arcade was fun, but again over priced, you get nothing for your hard earned money, we won't ever come back that's for , sure....the hotel its pretty decent, but everything else, major improvements needed

Dear Bourne698,

I am thrilled to see that you rated our hotel so highly and I couldnt agree more that Michael, our bartender, is a tremendous asset to our organization. He is able to create an atmosphere that is inviting and fun; exactly what we instill in all of our associates. I have passed on your kind remarks to him and he appreciates the feedback.

I am disappointed that your experience for the buffet was not to your liking and have passed your frustrations on to our new executive chef. He is confident your next visit will have a much more enjoyable experience with the new menu he is rolling out.

Thank you again for your high marks and look forward to having you back soon!

As an events manager, the most important factor in a successful event is the on-site staff at the venue. The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Boston North Shore has staff that have been with the hotel for over 10 years and it shows in their on-site response time and ability to handle special requests on the fly. We selected this property for the 5th year in a row to hold our 200+ sales staff training because of their proximity to our North Shore offices, the reasonable distance from Logan airport, and (mostly) because of their unbeatable overnight and catering prices. Our event was a success and I owe it all to the great staff in sales, catering, and housekeeping. We appreciated all the help and support and look forward to holding our 6th annual training at this location again next year.
