Owner description: The Museum of Russian Icons was founded in 2006 as a nonprofit educational institution by Massachusetts art collector and industrialist Gordon B. Lankton. With more than 700 Russian icons and artifacts, the collection is the largest of its kind in North America, and one of the largest private collections outside Russia. Spanning six centuries, the collection includes important historical paintings dating from the earliest periods of icon "writing" to the present. The Museum facility is 16,000 square feet and comprises several galleries, research library, archive storage, conservation studio, an auditorium accommodating programs, lectures and concerts, the Russian Tea Room, terrace, and green roof.

Six visits to date. More trips planned. The collection is superb. Gives you a better understanding of Christianity. A visual expression from much earlier times. Try Via Alto after the visit for a great meal !!

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

TheMuseum of Russian Icons has one of (if not THE) largest collection of Russian icons in the U.S. Besides the permanent collections, they also offer a rotating display of icons on loans from European galleries. Concerts & after-hours events are hosted here regularly. Admission remains very low (about $5), making this an affordable side trip for all.

“Well-designed, intriguing collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

The unique collection of Russian icons is well worth a visit for their artistic and cultural merit, even if you are not religious. If you care to learn more, the staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They also have free guided tours and free self-guided audio tours available. Well worth a few hours of your day.

The architecture of the museum is beautiful as well, as it is located in a renovated former courthouse, on picturesque Central Park in Clinton.

“Fascinating visit”

This is a wonderful collection of Russian icons - some with pictures so detailed that you need a magnifying glass to see all the details. It is beautifully presented and very interesting.

A wonderful collection that was once privatE collection
Hundreds of icons, expertly displayed in several uniquely lit rooms. An added treat is aRussian Tea Room that has been recently added to the basement a wonderful place to visit for a quiet afternoon out. It ie not far from Tower Gardens to round out the afternoon there is a senior discount and admission is minimal.
