The front desk people were cold and rude. Not even a "Hello or Goodbye", and answers to questions were curt and abrupt. The person who checked me in was rudely giving me instructions on how to check in and what "he needed me to do", and was rather condescending. He made me feel like an unwelcome intruder than a guest. He gave me a terrible impression of Boston hospitality. I've never had an experience with the front desk/check-in at a Wyndham property or any other hotel I've stayed at.
*However*, the Bar/Restaurant staff, the Shuttle Drivers, and Room Service/Housekeeping staff were wonderful, warm, enthusiastic and very friendly. They were genuinely interested in my comfort, and wanted to make that I enjoyed my dining experiences and stay in both the hotel and the city. Their courtesy was appreciated, and the front desk management should take a cue from them.
The restaurant/bar had decent food, (not spectacular), but a fair selection at reasonable prices, as were the drinks. The lounge/bar had 3 TVs and some outside seating. They catered well to the guests, from the solo traveler to families. Room Service was very expedient.
The hotel houses a lot of flight crews, and passengers passing through Boston. If you drive there, there is free ample parking. If you do not have a vehicle but want to get downtown, the hotel offers a free shuttle that goes to/from the airport subway (The “T”), every half hour. I was there for 4 days and only had to call for the shuttle once to pick me up, which arrived in 15 minutes. The other times I just waited until quarter after/quarter til the hour and it arrived promptly. The shuttle will also transport you to and from the hotel to the airport terminal for your flights.
The rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable, had nice linens, and comfortable beds. Well furnished and decorated. The bathroom was spotless and a very good size. I had no problems with the Internet service and cell phone reception was not a problem there. Not a lot of closet space though.
Some people have mentioned the neighborhood. No, it’s not a place the city’s beloved Kennedys would live, but it’s not a terrible place. It is nothing like the pristine city-scape of downtown Boston or Harvard campus, but many of the hotel staff live or grew up there and they’ll tell you it’s a decent, working class neighborhood. Perhaps some people may be put off with the neighborhood because it is predominantly minority occupied and stands in contrast to other parts/expectations of Boston. I walked up and down the streets at night (not that most travelers would have a need or desire to) and never had a problem.
Finally, many of the housekeeping staff do not speak English very well. There are little cards on the desk that informs you of that possibility, and if so the card has a picture menu listing services items/necessities (towels, soaps, pillows, etc) that you can give to your maid if communication is a problem.
