“Enjoyed our Brief Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

This was an amazing place but a tad pricey, as our room rate was over $800 per night (with taxes). We could of had slightly cheaper accommodation but wanted an ocean view and what a view we had. We stayed in one of the cottages that were situated along the ocean and the ocean views were outstanding. Lots of seals and boats to watch coming-and-going. It was a short walk to the main hotel and beach/pool accommodations but not a problem. The walk into town was maybe a 1/2 mile and the restaurants and shops were plentiful. And the downtown was quaint and beautiful. The most impressive thing about our room was the beds, as a person with chronic back problems I fear travel because a bad bed can ruin my trip, these beds were the most supportive and comfortable I have slept in. We want to go back!!!

Room Tip: Cottage rooms 373 and 374 are close to the ocean and have amazing views. There are many stairs to n...

When staying at CBI you need to know that whilst there is a main hotel, the complex is surrounded by lots (20+) of smaller accommodations a few minutes walk away. When we first arrived we were a little surprised but as the weather was so good, a short walk before breakfast was no problem. In fact, due to a noisy air conditioning unit on our first night we were moved and upgraded to a fantastic room overlooking the sea with it's own balcony and the hotel staff dealt with this for us without any fuss at all. The hotel has a range of places to eat and drink from very casual to fine dining was well as their own private beach front. We walked into Chatham a few times for a change of scenery as it's only 10 minutes away. The CBI is well placed to tour Cape Cod and we took advantage by going over to Martha's Vineyard for the day which is highly recommended. The staff were all very friendly and polite and the concierge was particularly helpful in helping find our way around and offering suggestions as to what to do.

Your experience may depend on what bldg as well as what room you are in. The main inn is the largest bldg and contains the dining rooms, some meeting rooms, as well as guest rooms. In addition there are over 20 more recently constructed bldgs (called cottages), many with oceanfront views.

We stayed in the spa bldg, which was exceptionally quiet, and peaceful. The room was spacious, had a very comfortable bed, a working gas fireplace, modern furnishings, large shower/ steam room, Jacuzzi, and even a separate sauna. Also had lots of drawer & cabinet space to easily fit all of our clothes and toiletries. Other pluses – the wifi worked seamlessly, and they have turn down service (still love that!).

The service was excellent, from spa staff to drivers to valet – all were friendly and courteous. Car service is provided - staff will pick you up at your room and drive you into town or anywhere within property. The property is lovely, and a nice walk town center, which is a great area to explore by walking or biking.
We really enjoyed relaxing by the spa pool, which was just behind our bldg, and is reserved for adults who are either having a spa treatment or staying in the spa bldg. It is quiet and calming.

The negatives are few. Our room could use more outlets for charging electronics, none were provided on the night table or lamp. We only found one accessible outlet (behind a table). There was a nespresso machine but no way to make regular coffee or tea in the room. You could call for delivery of ice or tea, but would have preferred to just have it in room.

Half of the flooring was tile, which was icy cold. Would have loved to have heated tiles or radiant heat – that would have been luxurious (I’d easily trade the sauna for warm tiles!). The towels were oddly placed on far side of Jacuzzi, which was strange because it required us to literally step into the (very high) tub to retrieve towels to use at sink or shower.
Note: If you are traveling w kids you may want to request a room close to the beach & main pool. A number of the buildings are quite a distance, esp if you have kids in tow.

The spa building did not have ocean view, but we didn’t mind that at all. This was room was beautiful, comfortable, and gloriously quiet!

Room Tip: Spa Bldg has quietest rooms, young children are not allowed. Recommend this bldg if you are traveli...

Chatham Bars Inn (CBI) is a well-known luxury resort whose reputation has withstood the test of time. The drawback to having a long history of excellence, is that it's easy to rest on one's laurels. This is what has occurred with CBI. Still a beautiful location, with gorgeous buildings throughout, the "cosmetics" need work and rooms need updating (e.g. ports to charge electronics, better lighting in guest rooms, etc). But more importantly, service and operations have suffered. The check-in desk is consistently slow and staff is not well-trained. No one seems to be running the show; as a result, wait times are long and information is often inaccurate. This last time we stayed at the inn (6/13-6/15), the food was surprisingly mediocre. CBI has always been known for it's gourmet cuisine, carefully prepared and beautifully presented. I'm not sure what happened, but the food throughout the 3 days we stayed was cold, soggy, flavorless, and at best, average. Very disappointing, considering you are still paying CBI prices!! It might have been an "off" weekend for CBI, but we were shocked at how far below it's usual standards it was. Someone needs to train the staff for the summer! The chefs need to prepare hot food for guests! The whole experience was very bland and disappointing.

Thank you for your review of Chatham Bars Inn Resort and Spa on Trip Advisor, we appreciate your feedback. I am very sorry to read that service was slow at our reception desk, perhaps due in part that new team members for the season where in training with their managers. Rest assured that we place quality service and training among the highest of our priorities during this time of year when we are gearing up for a busy summer season. However in this instance, it sounds like we clearly fell short during your registration process.

I will be discussing your comments with our Front of the House Manager in addition to sharing this review with our Executive Chef regarding your concerns with the food during your visit. After referencing your room reservation from our system, it is difficult to determine if your concerns were regarding a banquet meal or in one of our restaurants. If you have an opportunity to call me, I would welcome the opportunity for us to discuss in greater detail your review, in hopes that we could gain some more information on where we specifically fell short of your expectations. My direct number is 508.945.6710.

Thank you again for your candid feedback and I hope to hear from you soon. I hope that we have an opportunity in the future to showcase our best hospitality with improved focus on service and quality cuisine.

Regards,

Michael Briggs

We just spend just one glorious day at the Chatham Bars Inn. Yes it was pricey but we felt it was worth it. From the gorgeous immaculate rooms with a fireplace and a Nespresso bar to the stunning views from the dining room and veranda we felt so pampered. Ate at the Stars restaurant for dinner and is was delicious. Next time we will hit the spa and take the boat out.

The property is lovely and stretches from a small beach beside the town pier, across the street where the main inn sits, and back behind the inn. The property is exceptionally well maintained. Our room in one of the cottages was lovely and immaculate. Not that many rooms are down by the water or have a water view.... check when booking. It is very pricey... we went one night on an unadvertised special (you get whatever room is available)... still a bit expensive. Dining room was lovely and food good.... but VERY pricey. Two meals and maybe 3 drinks ran about $200. Staff were exceptionally friendly. When booking I told them it was a special anniversary, and when we arrived in our room there was a complimentary dish of chocolate covered strawberries. Lovely touch! Chatham is a great destination with a lovely beach by the lighthouse (very little parking...ouch!) and lovely shops. Not too far to the National Seashore as a bonus!

Room Tip: Most rooms and cottages are a bit of a distance from the water, and many without a view. If this is...

A great place to relax and dedicate yourself to sports in the middle of a marvellous landscape. The beach is beautiful, the see is clean, the pool is elegant. Everything is perfect at Chatham Bars Inn and Chatham is a very nice village.
