“Clean rooms, friendly staff and location, location & location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2010

Here is a motel with immaculate rooms, "calendar worthy" morning and evening views that is located in walking distance to Chatham, a town with wonderful shops and restaurants.
After the town, some of the must see locations are:
The Cape Cod League, Chatham A's, baseball, where you see tomorrow's stars play on the small local field today.
The fisherman's dock, a few hundred yards away, where you see the catch of the day, and where there is a "to go" fish store. Can't get any fresher than this!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a few days to get away from DC. We were looking for a good value close to the beach in Chatham. The Hawthorne delivered on everything promised. Our room was clean, the service was very helpful, and offered us some great advice and local information you can not find online. We will definitely return!

It's a vacation I need to take every year and have for the past 23 years. It rejuvenates & restores my soul.for the upcoming year. The rooms are clean & serviced daily. Most rooms have a water view . The staff work well together & are polite. Landscaping is a work in progress and has enhanced the already gorgeous view. It's a short walk ,about 1/3 of a mile, into town , where you can shop & dine at some quality places.
Veteran's Field is a short walk from town , if you choose to see a Chatham A's baseball game. And the Cape Cod BikeTrail can be picked up from there as well.

This is just one of the nicest places I have stayed.

This was our first time staying in Chatham and we found the Hawthorne a great place to stay. We had an ocean view room which was very clean. The young housekeepers were very pleasant and accomodating to any request we made. Gil is a friendly and welcoming guy. Definitely recommend it.

the Hawthorne Motel in Chatham Mass is an old fashioned motel locatefd directly on the ocean with wonderful grounds. there is free coffee in the morning which is just the perfect way to start the day. you take the coffee and go to the beach and sit there and sip on it; and meet and greet everyone who is walking by
Gil and his wife Ellie own and run this establishment and they are warm and friendly people and interestingly enough the people who come and stay at their hotel are also lovely. they also have hired wonderful young people to work there
the room we had was adequate nothing fancy but clean and the location was fabulous. the bed was great. what more could one want.
we certainly would go back; in fact people make reservations while they are there for the following year

the location in Chatham, close to town is a plus! The management of this place leaves something to be desired, and the beach while private could use some cleaning up. At least 1/2 of the rooms front the parking area, so if you'd prefer a water view, plan ahead. For just a little more $ you could stay at a luxury resort such as the Wequassett, fabulous amenities, pool, dining beach, etc. and really feel pampered, or the Chatham Bars Inn. There is no pampering here, it's just basics. We made the mistake of parking on the adjacent street, Claflin Landing so that we could easily unload our kayaks. The owner of the Hawthorne failed to warn us that he contacts the local police to complain about folks parking on that street and we got a $50.00 parking ticket. The nice officer explained that he had no choice. As Officer Powers told us, the owner of the Hawthorne called and complained and he had to write the tickets! There were many NO PARKING signs on the left side of Claflin Lane, but a large SUV obscured the only (one) No Parking sign on the right side of the road. The whole event left us with a bitter feeling about visiting the Hawthorne and Chatham in general. The officer ticketed all of the cars parked on the street, at least 20-30 cars. Out of curiosity we checked the next day and noticed that not a single car was ticketed. I guess it was just our bad luck that the owner of the Hawthorne did not warn us!! We will be looking into more beach-going friendly towns on the Cape for our next trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had a waterview room and the view was great. The staff were very helpful when we had a problem going on the internet. Rooms were clean and room service was excellent. There were outside chairs and tables for relaxing and we did just that. We hope to return again next year.
