Here's a sad Saturday night saga: once upon a time two weeks before the horrible visit, we had been to Villafranca as it had been so highly recommended by a foodie friend. We went on a weekday night and had an amazingly fine pizza, chosen from a full Italian menu.
Take two (or don't, we never will again): we return with a party of eight on a Friday night, having made a reservation. When we arrive they have never heard of us but give us a table which in retrospect we think should have rightfully gone to a party of 11 that came in right after us.
The menus were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than two weeks before. Now: a pizzeria menu with a few Italian boilerplates (veal/chicken parm, etc), nothing like the menu we had brought home.
There was a guy singing in the tiny room. He wasn't bad BUT HE HAD A VERY LARGE SOUND SYSTEM. VERY MUCH LARGER THAN A ROOM SO SMALL COULD HOLD. WE COULD NOT HEAR THE WAITRESS AS SHE TRIED TO TELL US THE SPECIALS SO NO ONE ORDERED ANY SPECIALS. The meals took forever. The drinks never arrived, even though there were two or three staff behind the bar serving a total of maybe seven drinkers. We asked for pitchers of water. They came after a half hour but were never to be refilled when emptied, though we asked and asked as we parched away.
My husband's meal arrived 45 minutes after ordering, when the rest of us were finished. The waitress stayed as far away as she could. I swear we were polite through the entire miserable experience. At some point the singer took a break and we could hear each other again.
The food was very very tasty. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS SO HORRIBLE. Maybe it's different during the week but the menu has drastically changed and not for the better. This is a place that doesn't know what it wants to be and I'll never go back even if they do find out. Take out or BEWARE.
