We were delighted that we booked the Candleberry Inn in Brewster for part of our holiday exploring New England and only wish we could have stayed longer than 3 nights!
We booked two rooms in the Carriage House, the Garden suite for ourselves and Seabreeze for our three daughters. The rooms were perfect, beautifully decorated, clean and very relaxing with private patio and deck respectively.
The main house was equally beautifully decorated with real old-world charm and interesting artifacts. It was everything we had expected an old New England house to be having a cosy, comfortable home-from-home feel.
The breakfasts were deliciously different every day with waffles and hot chocolate being a big hit with our daughters. The quiche with home-grown vegetables was my favourite. I only wish we had been able to sample some of Charlotte’s renown Creme Brulee French Toast before we left. Thankfully the recipe is on their web site along with Charlotte’s Molasses Spice Cookies and the Good Morning Coffee Cake, both of which are regularly baked in our home.
Charlotte and Stu are wonderful hosts being both friendly, informative and incredibly helpful. They made us and our girls feel very welcome. Charlotte helped us to book a whale-watching trip in Provincetown (awesome!) and her daughter Kerry kitted us out with bikes and helmets from Rail Trail Bike and Kayak for our day on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. A great experience, being quite flat with lots to see on the way. We stopped at Seymour Pond (actually a large lake by English standards!) for a swim in the lovely warm and clear water followed by a stop for delicious sandwiches and hot dogs for our girls at the general store a little further along the trail.
Two months on, it’s now September and I find myself thinking about the Candleberry Inn, wondering what it would be like in the fall? Stunning, I imagine! And as for Christmas..........
Thank you Charlotte and Stu for a wonderful stay. Hopefully we will be back one day in the not too distant future.
