“Great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

Located in Brewster MA on Cape Cod, the Brewster Inn and Chowder House is a must stop for great food. The clam chowder is fantastic. Be prepared for a wait during the summer but if you sit at the bar, you can get the same food and probably avoid the wait.

“Last minute choice, ok food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

It was late/rainy when we found this place and we were hungry. We had a nice wine (nice inexpensive wine selection). The clam chowder and salad appetizers were very nice but the main meals were very ordinary; seafood on linguine was bland (was served with penne instead), soft shell crab (deep fried and oily). Wait staff was friendly and accomodating. Cost us $80 but it was just OK.

“Should have paid attention to the negative reviews”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

Our party of 7 (including 2 children) went to the Brewster Inn and Chowder House on a Sunday evening. Since they don't accept reservations, we were thrilled to be seated promptly (within 10 minutes or so). Our order was also taken promptly. But it was downhill from there.

We had to ask for bread at least three times. Then the hostess came over, said that they were out of bread, and fresh rolls were being baked. Well, the bread came out about 25 minutes after our order was taken. Two bowls of chowder and one salad came to the table 30-40 minutes after we ordered. Then ... nothing. Tried to make eye contact with the server and the hostess, but the restaurant was completely understaffed and they just ignored us. Finally, about an hour after we ordered the server came out, said that 3 large parties came in right after us, and the kitchen was overwhelmed. The management didn't even have the decency to send over complimentary drinks. The entrees finally arrived, but the server said that the rest of the salads would be out "soon". Well, the salads were brought after we finished the entrees!

Wish I could say that the long wait for the food was worth it. The chowder was lukewarm and nothing special, the fish special was just OK, the greek salad had 1 cherry tomato, and the shrimp scampi was bland and very oily.

We will not be going back!

good local food and not expensive. A wide variety of fish and meat dishes. Friendly staff who were happy to offer help and advice. The Clam Chowder was exceptional!

“Very Good New England Fare”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

We recently dined here for the first time with a party of 6. The decor has the feeling of an historic New England country inn, which is what it is. Our expectations were not extremely high, but we were all pleased with our dinners. The clam chowder was good, but not the best I've had. My baked stuffed shrimp, though, were excellent. Not overcooked, tender, with a seafood stuffing and a touch of wine -- delicious. Others enjoyed the scallops and baked scrod. We sampled three deserts. The brownie ice cream sundae was average, but the chocolate bread pudding and the key lime pie in a crushed oreo crust were excellent. The wait staff were very nice and accommodating, although it was a little slow getting the check, and we had a play to catch. The prices were very reasonable. All in all, a fine experience.
