“Great family time at the mansion side!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

We just returned from 4 nights in the west wing of the mansion. We had our 3 children with us - ages 12, 10 and 3. All in all we had a wonderful time and were very happy with our stay.

We did our research before going and chose the mansion side for a reason - with 3 kids we needed to be able to bounce between the pool, beach and our room throughout the day. For that it was perfect. But the mansions you see in the pictures are not where the rooms are. They are actually in 2 basic looking buildings behind the mansions.

The beach is beautiful and the guys that work down there gladly set you up with chairs and umbrellas. No need to bring them from home. There is also a small bar on the deck that serves drinks and ice cream and a small lunch menu. We even got to see a wedding on the beach one of our days. But do know that when there are weddings, there is a good chance that the pool on the mansion side will be closed (it was).

We had a "premier" 2 queen bed room in the west wing, second floor. This room made us VERY HAPPY! I think that the room is why my husband is not complaining more about the cost of these 4 nights...... The room had to be close to 700 sqf. It had a view of the ocean above the trees. A balcony with table and 2 chairs. Two queen beds that were sooo comfortable and a queen size pull out sofa. Another table with 2 chairs, large flat screen tv, mini fridge, desk area with shelves and a storage bench. There was a large closet and dressing area outside of the bathroom with a vanity and a sink. The bathroom was large with a soaking tub. The toiletries were Tommy Bahama and smelled wonderful. Honestly this was one of the largest and nicest rooms we have stayed in at the beach and for a family of 5 thats important!

I'm not sure we would stay again as the cost for these 4 nights was over $2,000 with all the fees and taxes. But we would recommend it to others as a great place to stay. Maybe we will make it back off season :-)

My husband and I had a one night stay. We stayed in a West Wing mansion room on the second floor over looking the tennis court. The room was clean, spacious, and quiet.

We arrived early on a Saturday before our room was ready for check-in and the receptionists was nice enough to still check us in so that we could enjoy the pool and beachd. We were so happy with the beach and restaurant choices that we never left the property. We had lunch and dinner on the terrace restaurant, a late dessert at the pub, and breakfast in the mansion. All meals were excellent - a bit pricey, but we were happy with the quality of food, view from terrace, and service from an enthusiastic international staff.

My favorite part was the beautiful, clean and warm beach. It was really nice how you have to take a little path which is also lit at night (but not overly lit so you can stargaze). It is nice to just go down to the beach and not see or hear the resort scene. Staff was very helpful in setting up umbrellas to really enjoy that cool breeze, great scene and warm water.

It was a fabulous get away and will definitely will be going back.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a romantic suite chose the Mansion but if you plan to have a family get away...

For the past ten years, The Mansion at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club, has been a home away from home for our family. We absolutely love spending our vacation at Ocean Edge. The resort has many modern amenities and the accommodations are spacious and immaculately maintained. There are many dining options and the food is delicious! The customer service is extraordinary. The beach is one of our favorite ways to spend our days with time spent at the outdoor pool as well. The Brewster community is quaint with great stores, restaurants and family attractions. We hope to come back each and every year!

Room Tip: We love the Chatham House, one of our very favorite accommodations!

This is a beautiful, clean, and well-tended resort property. There are multiple pools on property, beach access, daily activities, terrace bar and restaurant overlooking the water, central location, and a friendly, accommodating staff eager to assist at every turn.

That is, if you book The Mansion - NOT the Village.

Both are highlighted on the website, which features a large hero photo of a wooden walking path meandering out to a secluded section of sandy seafront. This and the name of the property combine to imply that the hotel is a Mansion on the edge of the ocean. Which is only half true.

If you don't book the Mansion specifically, and are unaware there is a difference, you will find that your room is neither at a Mansion nor at the ocean's edge. It is, instead, a quarter mile down the road, across the highway, and a short drive (not a walk) to the beach. In fact, village units don't even enjoy access to the Mansion's private beach, either, making your ocean escape a shuttle ride away. Book accordingly.

Upon discovering that our room was not at The Mansion, as we had mistakenly presumed from resort photography, and a Google map of the property, and the NAME of the resort, we expressed our disappointment with a friendly desk representative who informed us that this distinction confuses lots people.

This revelation was, of course, at the moment of check-in, of little consolation to us, and even less consoling to our son who'd been eagerly anticipating frequent trips between the beach and the pool. The unit we had been assigned, we then learned, didn't even have a pool adjacent to it. Again - the shuttle would have to take us there.

The desk rep was very pleasant in explaining that all of these details are spelled out on the website. But that if you book through a third party service, which I imagine most comparison shoppers do, the difference between The Mansion and the Village becomes even muddier, as such critical booking details become even harder to find.

And that is the whole point to this review. We ended up paying a considerable amount more to "upgrade" to a room we thought we had booked at a much lower rate. I do not think this is a bait and switch necessarily, or intentionally deceitful, but one can't help but feel disappointed when expectations are so completely misaligned with the experience.

Yes, the resort is beautiful. The rooms were some of the nicest we've seen anywhere. The private beach was a few-minute walk away and very pleasant. And I've awarded it four stars on the merit of it being an exceptional property – but truthfully, I've paid less to stay at the Fairmont Maui. So, in terms of value for the money, I can't say we felt we got what we paid for.

One final note that soured our otherwise pleasant stay: the stated $25/day "resort fee" is a mandatory charge they tack on for all kinds of inclusive perks and activities, like pool access and "free" wifi (as it was advertised on hotels.com). I really wish these properties would be more transparent and just charge more for the room than bury these surcharges with meaningless terms like "resort fee." Yes, I understand these are fairly common in the industry...but it's not like you can opt out of them. So why not just add this cost to the cost of the room in the rate that's quoted up front so people know exactly what the true cost is going to be? Bottom line: You can't advertise that you have pools and beach access and "free" wifi as part of the package, and then tack on another $25/day at the end of the trip. It's dishonest.

But if you have the disposable income and only settle for the best, this is the place to stay near Brewster - no question about it.

Room Tip: If beach access is important to you, stay at The Mansion, not the Village.

Visited end of June 2013 with my family (me, my wife, our two young kids and my wife's mother). The property is stunning with a fantastic 3-acre front lawn, great private beach and indoor/outdoor pools. We had a very luxurious and comfortable three-bedroom apartment with a fully equipped kitchen. Cathy Strizzi, our hostess, was exceptional and helped with all our requirements. The hotel is conveniently located so as to allow easy access to other parts of the Cape such as Provincetown, Chatham and Falmouth. We stayed three nights but would have loved to go a full week! Definitely will be back next year!

This resort is in a good centralized location on Cape Cod for easy and short trips to surrounding towns with more attractions (Orleans, Chatham, Wellfleet, etc.) for shopping and dining but is in a quiet neighborhood with private beach access that is ideal for a short getaway. The recently renovated Mansion side rooms are gorgeous, large, well decorated but do not have actual ocean views at the resort is set back from the beach by about .25 mile. The resort grounds are decent with a good sized pool, tennis courts, green space and private beach down a hidden path. However, the spa and gym facilities are decidedly subpar.

Our primary complaint is that when we booked the trip we requested a spa treatment and were provided with a direct number to call to set up our desired appointment time and treatment. We called and made an appointment with E-Spa (which we did not lean until much later is actually down the road from the resort, not a part of it) without trouble. But it was never made clear by the resort staff that the spa was actually not connected with the resort itself (note they do have spa treatments available if you schedule to have someone come specifically to the resort on your appointed day). The day of our appointment we arrived at the resort's "spa" only to discover no one was around. After discussing with some of the staff in the adjoining pool area for some time trying to sort out the confusion, we received a call from E Spa and realized that the appointment was actually elsewhere. We were late to our appointment and while the actual treatment was very good at E Spa, it was cut a bit short because of the confusion. On the upside the resort ended up comping us a meal to make up for the confusion.

One other issue (which is not unique to resorts) is that the food on site is incredibly overpriced. The first afternoon that we arrived we just wanted a snack and had a "cheese platter" at the Ocean View Terrance (does actually have an ocean view) which consisted of a few meager slices of cheese, crackers and fruit for a whopping $28 (we later purchased about 3 lbs of fresh assorted cheeses along with crackers at a shop in Chatham for the same price). We also had an eye-popping $8 glass of milk one night as room service when my wife suffered some heartburn. While these expenses should not be make or break when the average room is $425 nightly, you can get a better local experience/value by going off the resort for dining.

Room Tip: Although there is no "ocean view" in the Mansion rooms, ask for a ocean facing room as the...

Our stay at the Mansion Villas were fantastic. The rooms were just redone in Tommy Bahama decor and the staff was fantastic. A really special place to watch the suset was the Ocean Terrace that was on the property. We enjoyed the food and the service was exceptional.
A special shout out to Jennifer, Sam and Adam who made sure that everything was to our liking !!!
The ocean and beach was a great place to unwind. The staff were also very accommodating and worked very hard .
I can't wait to return !
