3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

This resort was recommended by friends who know the area when we were attending a wedding in Harwichport. My heart soared when we drove up to register; the place looked interesting and beautiful, with gorgeous water views. Little did we know that we did not have a room in the "mansion" but had to drive down the road and across the street to the Villages. The condo style one bedroom suite was clean and had a kitchenette. The bathroom was super small, though, and there was a strong musty odor throughout. The room had sliders out to a deck and a washer and dryer. We were on the second floor and it was relatively quiet, although it did seem like an early rising five year old elephant with lots of energy running laps in the condo above us. We were very disappointed, especially since we registered in such a lovely area. The resort should do a better job of explaining the totally different types of accommodations available so that patrons can be more cautious in choosing. We would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Stay in the mansion!

Photos of the resort are spectacular, a romantic getaway was anticipated - if only the resort were that nice. When we checked in, we were advised to leave the property proceed up the road across the highway and go to the condo. The receptionist did not wish to be bothered and only checked us in under pressure - she was more interested in talking to a colleagure about a wedding party that was at the resort. Parking was across the road from where we were to to reside for the next two nights; we had to lug our luggage across the road, down a path, up two sets of stairs and finally arrive at the condo. The one bed room condo was "okay" but not the level of expected nor promised. Very low lighting, without enough watts or lamps. The bed was very hard and not even a queen or king size, though the linens were nice. The bathroom was very small; though the toiletries very luxurious. There were two window air conditioners - very loud and not convenient. The air conditioner in the living room leaked so much on the patio we could not sit out on it and enjoy the view nor air. The kitchen was very small and not useable. The ice maker was very loud and there was no light in the refrigerator. I attempted to use the washer and dryer but no clothes detergent was provided, nor dish detergent for dishes or the dish washer. No paper towels nor extra toilet paper. If the stay had been for longer than the two nights we would have checked out early. The housekeeper was very pleasant and helpful. When we checked in, I had asked for information on the facilities and was advised to look as the brochure. The resort fee is unethical since were not able to use any of the facilities. We had no idea where the minibus would take us, nor could figure out how to get to the pool.
I would recommend getting the lay of the land prior to arriving or upon check in; even if there were many wedding parties present.

My wife and I recently spent a few days on the Cape, staying at the Villages at Ocean Edge. Our ground floor suite was spacious, and although the kitchen area and furnishings were more than adequate, some staples such as dish and dishwasher detergents and paper towels should have been provided. There was an off odor that we couldn't identify, but wondered if it was from smoking. Some small broken items (hair dryer holder, door handle trim) need fixing. The king-sized bed was comfortable, and as the room was basically for sleeping and having breakfast, it more than mer our needs. The front desk and concierge were very helpful, and the location on 6A provides ready access to the rest of the Cape.

This was an outstanding hotel which we stayed in at the start of our New England tour. Our room was beautifully decorated, spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The resort had a good range of facilities. We enjoyed an afternoon on the private beach, a cycle ride and a meal in the hotel's pub. Our only suggestion would be that it would have been useful to have more information about the facilities and how to access our room with our luggage. We needlessly carried heavy bags up two flights of stairs. The staff were all friendly and helpful especially Candy in the bike hire area. The standards of cleanliness were high and we would certainly recommend this resort and hope to return.

Room Tip: The rooms in the hotel have access to the private beach.

The Ocean Edge is a lovely development on Cape Cod that has numerous owner owned condos with kitchens, washer/drier with nice hike and bike trails, golf course, pool and a bus that will take you around the grounds as it is the size of a planned community. We were in a bind to find a place to stay for one night when we were on the Cape so were not looking for a resort but were willing to pay top dollar considering the circumstances. It struck me that when one goes to the Cape it is not to get this experience, namely a self contained vacation spot when there is some of the most beautiful coastline in the US, great restaurants, and an incredible national park close by to enjoy at a less planned community. I could see staying at a place like this in the Berkshires. In addition we were charged an additional $22.34 resort fee when we checked out. Not sure what this was for or whether it was because we used the pool near our condo for 90 minutes and signed out 3 towels. It wasn't worth questioning but it would be nice if extra charges were mentioned up front when we checked. If you are planning on staying somewhere on the Cape, would look long and hard for a house to rent in one of the villages so you can enjoy the Cape Cod experience. There are easier places to get to if you want a planned resort community.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this resort. However, given how much they charge during high season, I was expecting more.

I went twice this year - the first time was the weekend before Memorial Day. It was an outstanding deal for a weekend getaway - prices were extremely reasonable because it was not yet high season. I never stayed at the hotel side so I had no way to compare. We had a one bedroom unit on the first floor (in actually it was the sub-basement as we had to descent two levels from the entrance to get to the room. It did have a small patio that overlook some picnic tables and bike racks.) The decor was like a 3 star hotel anywhere in America. The room was clean though and there was a kitchenette. So I guess it would be good for a family who is staying longer. One benefit of the village side was that it was close to the bike path that goes up to Wellfleet. it was about a 13 mile ride but the trail was paved the whole way. The pool wasn't open when I was there the first time but there was still a $25 per night resort fee. We didn't use any thing else that would warrant a resort fee.

The second time was after Independence day with my brother's family (with a child) and my parents. We also stayed on the village side. The price this time was twice as much as just 6 weeks ago. The pools were open and my niece enjoyed it very much. So I guess the $25 dollars resort fee was better spent this time. Once again, it was adequate but I wouldn't pay that amount during high season for a room of that quality.

One thing that was consistent during the two stays was that service at the front desk was so-so. We asked some questions about local attractions (was there a pond where we could swim in? what was a good place to rent kayaks?) and frequently the workers at the front desk needed to ask each other for answers and sometimes it took so long that while I was waiting for the answer, my husband already found the answer on the web and we used the front desk for confirmatory comments. The housekeeping staff and the groundkeepers were always pleasant to talk to. They always had a smile on their faces and seemed happy to chit chat with guests.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a romantic getaway, I wouldn't choose the village side.

This was our 5th or 6th year heading to Ocean Edge. We love it! Good food, great kids activities, lazy days lounging by the pool(s)! We had one very poor service at Bayzo's pub, but the manager ended up taking care of us and comping the meal. It would be nice for the snack shack's to have a bit more variety of lunch type foods. The restaurant at the golf course was really great - food was tasty, staff was very warm and accomodating!
We'll definitely be back!
