Owner description: Tower Hill Botanic Garden is New England's year-round botanic garden, a living museum of plants exquisite in every season. Several distinctive gardens arrange plants according to an overall Master Plan, that includes a Lawn Garden, Secret Garden, Systematic Garden, Cottage & Vegetable Garden, Wildlife Refuge Pond, Winter Garden, and more. Two conservatories--the Orangerie and the Limonaia--display non-hardy plants in winter, with blooming flowers in every season. Springtime brings more than a quarter million flowering bulbs, including a signature field of more than 25,000 daffodils.

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

We have visited Tower Hill before and found it to be very enjoyable. Our visit this time was rather disappointing. Not only were there relatively few flowers in bloom, we chose a Wednesday evening specifically in order to wander the gardens and then enjoy dinner on the patio with live Jazz music. The setting was beautiful, and we were there long enough to view a lovely sunset. However, although we arrived only an hour after they started serving, they were already out of the swordfish, which was one of only two possible choices for my daughter who is vegetarian and also gluten sensitive. The sangria we ordered, and the salad and tofu tapas we finally selected ended up being just okay. The staff seemed unable to keep up, and one even mentioned that they still hadn't quite figured out how to fix their mistakes to better manage the flow of diners. Tower Hill has nice grounds and some good programs. My recommendation would be to visit the gardens in spring or early summer, and skip the restaurant.

“Time out of time in the Garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Tower Hill is a lovely place offering walking trails through woods where the outside world recedes and birdsong replaces traffic sounds. On one path we came upon a statue of Pan in a clearing, and further on we were soothed with the sounds of fountains overseen by a folly, complete with columns. A marshy pond was home to birds and frogs, and the more formal gardens were lush with flowers. We came away refreshed and renewed.

“A great way to spent the day!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

This was my first visit but I will return. The grounds are breathtaking and the variety of flora impressive. A friend and I had lunch at the Twigs Cafe. Since the weather was prefect, we ate outside where there was a wonderful view of the Wachusett Reservoir. We had the Quiche of the Day and it was excellent. There are multiple trails, with interesting stops along the way. The walk to Tower Hill Summit where you can view Mount Wachusett would be a bit rough for those who have trouble walking.

“Don't miss a great place to enjoy wonderful gardens!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

I have been here several times but not for about 3 years and I was impressed with the changes. My visit this time was for business and attend a summer conference of making connections and attending some interesting classes. I got some great pictures in between the classes and got some new ideas on plant material and combinations by walking the gardens. I plan to go back soon so I can get to walk the whole 1 mile trail and bring a picnic lunch and a camera. The view from the Twigs Cafe Terrace has a beautiful vista of Wachusett Reservoir in the distance and WOW! You can enjoy a meal or just have a snack, inside or out. There is also a gift shop. There is an apple orchard, formal and informal gardens. The vegetable garden had unusual plants to spark your interest. Tower Hill has many classes and events throughout the year so make sure to check out their website. If you go on the trail you can go to the birdhouse which is a screened in building where you can observe many different types of birds and wildlife. Don't miss your chance to relax and enjoy!

Tower Hill is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon with the family. We brought a picnic and spent the afternoon wandering the gorgeous grounds.
