“A nice place that needs a fair amount of work.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2009

The grounds are nice, but the rooms need attention. In our room, no lamp worked within 12 feet of the bed, and the ancient air conditioner had broken nobs. The sheets and pillows dated seemed like originals from when it was a real tavern in 1776. The tiny bathroom reeked of urine -- we had to throw the rug and mat straight in the dumpster.

The kitchen had been updated and was nice, though none of the frying pans spoke the language of no stick anymore.

We paid $7000 for a week for the 14 of us...seems like more of that needs to be plowed into upkeep.

I have stayed at the Crocker Tavern twice. I am a resident of California, and found this to be one of the most enchanting homes I have had the pleasure of vactioning in. So much so, I arranged to take my daughter there as a graduation gift after my first stay.

The home is utterly charming and delightfully furnished. Each room is named after a historic figure of the Revolutionary Period. My favorite room is the Ottis Room. It is done in shades of blue with colonial cream colored swag curtains. The bathroom is down the hall, which is delightful to travel in the middle of the night ( should you believe in the hauntings of Aunt Lydia).

It sits on Olde Kings Highway, and was the meeting place of the Whigs in the 1770's. When I stayed here it was a B&B, and incredible. You will not be disappointed!

  • Liked — it felt like home, and as if I were experiencing a part of history
  • Disliked — absolutely nothing

Our stay at the Crocker Tavern was wonderful! The house and gardens are beautiful and very spacious. You feel as if you stepped back in time. The fun really started once we found out it was on the Haunted History tour ! We had our own ghostly sitings...several of us running into each other wearing sheets. The home is charming and has all the modern amenities necessary for a long stay. There is so much to do; reading on the back patio, a large kitchen for cooking, bubble baths in the claw tub, dancing in the barn, walking through the town, antique shops... I would recommend staying at the Crocker Tavern to anyone, especially history buffs.
