“Great place to stay”

Lamb And Lion Inn

Aug 6, 2007

When traveling with a dog or not this is a great place to stay. Dogs are most welcome with plenty of walking space. The pool area is just a great spot for a quiet afternoon along with the spa and outdoor shower. Breakfast with fresh baked goods, homemade granola and more. Innkeepers could not have been more in the know and helpfull. Will keep this on the list of my favorite places to stay on the Cape

The website was really top-notch.........I had no doubt it would be a beautiful place. What we found - was far better than I imagined. A hilarious elvis-impersonating host and several pocket sized dogs running throughout the inn - I absolutely LOVED IT! The inn-dogs are as pleasant as the host and hostess - although we only discovered two of them.........we got so much pleasure out of watching these little pint-sized fluffballs and playing with them - then we do our own animals!

Besides the pets, the inn is in a superb location - close to many fine restaurants, other beautiful waterfront towns, and beaches. My husband and I spent 3 wonderful nights at this inn - and would recommend it to all we know. All rooms surround the pool which is lovely. The breakfast room is the gathering area each morning to a wonderful array of goodies all with a view of the pool and couryard.

We highly recommend this place - Tom and Alice are top notch in our book! We will be back......give Golly Gee Willikers and Jeepers Creepers a hug from us - we'd love to (or should I say I would love to - not my husband) - become their Godparents! Although the Petersons have first dibs! Thanks again for a great time. You made our first trip to Cape Cod a memorable one!

Stayed 3 days at this Inn with the so called B&B feel . The place was more like a motel. Upon arrival we were escorted to our room. First We were told that we had to jiggle the key because the lock was bad. Then we were told that we should turn off the portable air conditioning unit when we were out. Breakfast was a real treat we received individual packs of cold cereal and toasted English muffins. After a long hot day we returned to our dungeon looking forward to a nice shower and we encountered dirty water. turns out that they were cleaning the septic tanks. The walls were paper thin, we heard constant bickering from our
neighbors next door.

We responded to "Joe" and in essence we suspect that he may have misidentifed our Inn. It is hard to determine when he was here as quite frankly we can not remember when we have had an even moderately unhappy guest . We have not had any septic work done in over 2 years and it has never been brought to our attention that we had a water problem. We do not serve cold packets of cereal and we are totally unaware of any problematic locks. I will say however, that if any guest was so profoundly unhappy when they were here, we would have offered him a full refund and helped him to find another accommodation. It would never be our intention that someone would have to pay for an unhappy experience as a result of being a guest at our Inn. Alice

“Interesting Barn in Barnstable”

Lamb And Lion Inn

Save Review
4 of 5 stars
Atlanta, GA
Jul 20, 2007

We've just returned from a week in the "barn" of the Lamb and Lion Inn in Barnstable, MA (Cape Cod). The complex mostly features conventional B&B rooms, but the barn is different. Downstairs comprises a small kitchen, dining area, and seating group. Two narrow and steep stairways (with minimal headroom) afford access to a pair of small sleeping lofts at opposite ends... both of which give onto a third, higher loft in the center of the building. One end loft has both double and twin beds, the other has one twin, and the center has one double. A single bathroom is accessed from the end loft with the twin bed. No... it's not really a "three-room suite". But... it's fun for a family or small group who know each other *really* well.

Breakfasts are simple but tasty: coffee, milk, fresh OJ, several kinds of cereal and granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, English muffins... and a daily fresh pastry (scones, muffins, crumb cake, etc.). You can eat in the sun room, by the pool (which is surrounded by the rest of the compound), on an outside deck, or in your room.

The pool is solar heated, the hot tub is large and 104 degrees... and you don't want to miss the "Cape Cod shower", which is by the pool, enclosed, yet open to the sky. Taking a shower in the rain with a fresh breeze is quite the sensual experience.

Tom and Alice run the place along with their four little dogs. They have decades of experience in the hospitality business and really know what they're doing. A special feature is their sheaf of one-page driving tours of various portions of Cape Cod. These feature out-of-the-way spots you might never find otherwise (board walks, the Underground Gallery, the best restaurants).

Our only problem arose while trying to cook a large meal with the oven and three burners going simultaneously. We blew a circuit breaker, which turned out to be inter-related to the neighbor's AC unit. Tom quickly resolved the problem. When we contemplated boiling a large pot of water the next day for pasta, Alice just loaned us her pasta pot and even brought the water to boil on her big gas range. We felt like part of the family.

HIghly recommended.

“Simply perfect winter getaway”

4/4 found this review helpful

This was our 7th visit to the Cape and we have to say it was by far the best experience yet. We (me and my boyfriend of 11 years) love staying at B&Bs throughout the country, and we have found the ultimate B&B in Barnstable Village, Cape Cod. The Lamb and Lion was perfect for all our our needs. The first time we ever came to the Cape we stayed on the south shore on route 28 (BIG mistake!). We quickly realized that the northern 6A area (the historic "old" Cape Cod) was what we were looking for. We have sinced enjoyed exploring 6A and staying at different places every time. We had some good experiences, and some "not so good", but we are definately going to make the Lamb and Lion Inn our regular stop from now on.
We had a bed that was THE most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. The bed faced a wood burning fireplace that was layed out for us every afternoon while we were out.
And speaking of out, if you don't know Cape Cod, or if you have been here 7 times like we have, another bonus about this inn is their driving tours. They show you how to see everything! The best (and hard to find) beaches, really neat stores, restaurants to stop at for various cravings, lighthouses, museums--and on and on. I can't TELL you how many times in the past we drove past many of these little side roads not knowing what we were missing! One day we went to Martha's Vineyard, Alice and Tom(innkeepers) layed that out for us too--ferry tickets, parking, favorite island restaurants, best ways to get around--even where to see sites from the movie JAWS (one of our favorite movies--it was filmed on Martha's Vineyard).
We loved the inn so much that 2 of our 5 nights we ate there. They don't have a restaurant but they are happy to have people bring back take-out and dine in the privacy of their room. Our room had a kitchen & living room so it was perfect! The second night we grilled steaks in the courtyard (a chilly night for grilling, but jumping in the giant hot tub afterwards with our wine made it all worth while!!).
Oh, and girls, hint to your boyfriends/husbands about the room packages. I had beautiful, fragrant lillies and lots of cheese and picky foods, and "chocolate oysters" (!!!!!! SO rich!) waiting for me in the room when we checked in.
We are planning another trip back in the late spring (for the pool, but before the big crowds). We can't wait!!
