“Take the kids on a ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

The Wheaton regional park carousel and train ride is a hidden attraction at the park. It costs about $1.50 each ride, but its a nice diversion for the kids. Lots of parking but can get crowded on the weekends

“Great for young kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Kids up to 7 or 8 will enjoy the train, which is pretty realistic. Also fun for Halloween train ride, which is festive but not too scary for little ones. Not scary enough, however, for the bigger kids.

“4 GREAT SITES IN 1 VISIT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

For one day, visit the Miniature Train and Carousel of the Wheaton Regional Park plus 3 other great sites of the Brookside Gardens located near by: VISITOR CENTER, CONSERVATORIES
(plus Wings of Fancy EXHIBIT), and the BROOKSIDE NATURE CENTER. Please see my related review of these 3 great sites (Brookside Gardens).

1. Reserve your space at the website of the Montgomery County Public Parks if you want to have your own pavilion, table and grill for your picnic/visit.

Otherwise, just find a space at the grounds of the park. Spread your picnic blanket, foods and drinks.

2. Ride the MINIATURE TRAIN for the tour of the park. Buy your ticket at the Wheaton Train Station located at the park (see related photo).

3. Ride the CAROUSEL, one of the oldest one in operation. Adults could accompany the young kids during the ride ( see related photo).

4. Take a walk from the park to the Brookside Gardens after eating your picnic dishes. Note that it is long walk. It could take about 20-30 minutes depending on the speed of your walk.

Admire the beauty of the various areas of the Brookside Gardens. Be sure to bring your camera and take a lot of pictures. Visit the Wings of Fancy Exhibit before it closes on September 16, 2012.

OPTION B:

1. If you don't want to walk from the Shorefield/ Wheaton Regional Park to the Brookside Gardens, pack your picnic items and stuffs when you're done with your visit/picnic.

2. Drive to the Brookside Gardens located along the Glenallan Avenue. The addresses: 1500 Glenallan Avenue for the CONSERVATORIES AND WINGS OF FANCY EXHIBIT and 1800 Glenallan Avenue for the VISITOR CENTER.

The drive is for about 10 minutes from Shorefield Street: Right turn on Georgia Avenue/ North 97, right turn on Randolph Road ( landmark = Fire Station) and then right turn on Glenallan Avenue.

Hope you enjoy your visit of these 4 GREAT SITES!

“A great way to spend the afternoon with little ones.”

We enjoy the park and the attractions. This little park is a Maryland gem. I think that familie with young children will be very happy they made the effort to go here.

“Surprising Gem in Wheaton Regional Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

We took our great granddaughter to Wheaton Regional Park because we wanted her to see and ride the antique carousel there. Since we love the old hand carved carousels (this one is a Herschell-Spillman, with menagerie animals from 1905-1920, it's especially beautiful. While the music played, we all sat atop adjoining horses. What fun! Next we took the miniature train ride around the park. What a great way to enjoy the park scenery without hiking. The park has other features, such as the lovely gardens, and we wore ourselves out trying to see everything. It was a perfect day!
