“Lower your expectations”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

We just got back from two nights at the Black Walnut Inn to celebrate our 1st anniversary. We thought we were getting a secluded luxury cabin by the bay, which is what was advertised.

To our surprise, the "luxury cabin" was a single wide trailer with wood paneling. The screens on the porch were ripped, the place was dirty, the refrigerator was disgusting and the vinyl flooring in the bathroom was buckling. Last night brought a cold snap, but the heating did not work well so the night was long and cold.

Here is the best part ... we came back yesterday from the oyster fest in St. Michaels and the room had not been touched, no clean towels or anything. I asked when the room was going to be made up and the answer I got was "people don't usually want it and I forgot to ask". Really?! I have traveled many years and this is the first time I have enountered a place that does not make your room up or bring clean towels. Even the flea bag motels make up the room.

For the $249/night that we paid, we expected much much more. I give this B&B a -4 rating. The views however are a 5 so the total experience is a 1!

Room Tip: Visit the grounds for the day and go back to St. Michaels to stay.

This is a beautifully located, well appointed inn on the end of a wind swept point of land (it was October), surrounded by a nature reserve. The rooms were lovely, the breakfast was delicious but the best part was the warm welcome from Bob and Tracy. I was traveling with my 90 year old mother and the kindness and consideration shown to both of us was unparalleled. The inn is close to the good restaurants and sights of St Michaels, but set in the midst of all the beauties nature has to offer - it was a perfect three days.

We had a wonderful, albeit short stay at Black Walnut Point Inn. Bob and Tracy were warm and welcoming even though we did not make reservations until we were in their driveway. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The property is secluded, surrounded by water, just what we were looking for! Thank you!

Bootiful place! Gorgeous views in every direction. They have a fabulous pier if anyone is into fishing. My husband caught some which I cooked in our cabin's kitchen and took to the ever fun communal breakfast which is served from 8-10. There is a plethora of food daily. Have I mentioned Tracy and Bob. Fabulous fun and a very welcoming place. Go see for yourself. Kate

Room Tip: Cabins r great

There is no place quite like this anywhere. Tracy and Bob both welcomed us with enthusiasm and made us feel right at home immediately. We were quick to go have dinner and come back to enjoy the grounds and watch the sunset over the water from one of the many hammocks, cocktails in hand. Then we swam in the dark, floating on our backs, watching the clear sky full of stars. The next morning, I wandered the grounds and ate from their raspberry bushes before a hearty homecooked breakfast. Our stay was too short! It felt like visiting an old family estate where you are welcome in every corner with every comfort from games to books to musical instruments, plenty of antiques to enjoy, and a fridge with snacks and drinks to raid when you get the midnight munchies. We will be back!

The Black Walnut Point Inn became our home away from home for four amazing days over Labor Day weekend 2013. Surrounded by water on three sides, the BWPI sits on the southern most point of Tilghman Island. You can literally watch the sunrise on the east side of the peninsula and the sun set on the west. We stayed in one of the rustic cozy water front cabins that is nestled between the main house bed and breakfast and the water. The cabins have AC, a cute kitchen with all the basic necessities (pots, pans & utensils), fridge, microwave, electric stove and oven, dishwasher, TV, gas log fireplace and a wonderful screened in porch with rocking chairs. Sitting on the porch with the bay breeze...it doesn't get much better than that.
Breakfast is delish and is served daily by the fabulous inn-keepers who are artists at hospitality. During the day we wandered the property - viewed birds, swung in hammocks and swam in the in-ground pool. Hopping into the hot tub was a perfect end to the day! We both accomplished a level of relaxation rarely achieved and were truly sad when we left. BUT...booked the next trip for weekend in October.
We didn't need to leave! And that's exactly what we wanted.

I've been coming to Tilghman Island for many years now, and the best place to stay for total relaxation is the Black Walnut Point Inn! The owners continue to make it comfortable and enjoyable. Absolutely LOVE IT!

Room Tip: All rooms have waterfront views!
