“Great pizza place on the shore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Visited on a Saturday night, group of 4. They do not take reservations, but you can call up to 45 minutes before you arrive and get your name on a waiting list.

As a foursome, we got 2 pizzas and shared. Perfect. Good beer selection and wine selection.

Parking on the street.

“Ava's is really special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Wood-fired oven and they know how to use it for more than just their signature dish ... amazing thin-crust pizza. Reminded me of the thin-crust pizza in Rome that was so good I could've made a meal of the crust alone. House-made potato chips with blue cheese and Old Bay. Pretty remarkable. Special occasion fries. Definitely our best meal in St. Michaels and absolutely worth the trip, or the wait, or whatever :-)

Ava's is popular, and it's PACKED. So get there early, or get there late. Or suck it up and try to find yourself a seat at the bar. By the way, if if you're a party of just one or two and you can get a seat at aforementioned bar ... just order right there. Same food. Wildly-shorter wait.

Don't be weirded out by the "and Wine Bar" part of the Ava's name. It's a restaurant. A great restaurant.

Don't park beside the curbs painted yellow. This is a walking town, so drive the extra half-block.

Try something new. Some of these pizzas looked like entire salads on a pizza crust. It tasted GREAT! The pepperoni definitely surprised us--small, crispy, PERFECT.

But most of all ... don't get put off by the wait ... it's worth it.

Standing outside, I probably watched a half-dozen groups show up, take one look at the line and turn around. Some headed up the street to Theo's Steakhouse. Well Theo's certainly has seats available and it's highly rated ... so I guess if you're in a hurry you might as well go there. But Ava's is so unique--it's worth the wait..

“You HAVE To Try This Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Probably the best variety of food I've tasted. I couldn't leave without trying just one more item. Pizza's are stupid good, meatballs melt in your mouth as well as the fried oysters. Even the salads were way above average. Home made chips are ridiculous and go with everything. Oh, and they also have an astonishing Wine Bar. Derrick took care of us all three times we went over the weekend and he was absolutely fantastic. Knows as much as he needs to recommend a wine pairing without being pretentious when you choose to order the house wine. Stop reading this and go. They also have a dog menu and outside seating with two fireplaces. Taking mine with me next time.

“Wow! Great food and service, the best of Saint Michaels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We loved Ava's. You can't go wrong with the mussels. They were easily the best we ever had and the highlight of our Saint Michaels dining. We asked for more and more bread to soak up the delicious broth.

We followed up the mussels with pizza, of course, and were not disappointed. Everything was fresh and served with a smile. I was a little nervous about the balsamic reduction that topped the arugula on my pizza but it was absolutely perfect and I will try to replicate it the next time I make pizza at home. I can only hope to come close to one of the best pizzas I have ever had.

Well done, Ava's!

“Great pizza, fun atmosphere”

Easily the best meal of our Eastern Shore long weekend. Good wines, great pizza, attentive service and a fun and comfortable place to be.
