“Loved Our Stay in Cygnet Cottage at the Two Swan Inn!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

We really enjoyed our stay in this quaint cottage (two full bedrooms, with an adjoining twin bed in the second bedroom, making it very family friendly) located in the heart of St. Michaels, MD. Our daughter and son-in-law joined us for the Columbus Day weekend, and although the weather did not cooperate, we took advantage of the cottage's central location to explore this wonderful town, its fine dining opportunities and one-of-a-kind shops. We especially enjoyed High Tea at the Inn at Perry Cabin, which was very reasonably priced and a delightful culinary experience. Our hostess, Cathy, was very accommodating and worked with us to allow an early check-in when our plans changed unexpectedly. We will be back very soon and can't wait for our next visit.

Room Tip: All rooms are comfortable, but the second bedroom with the adjoining twin bed, is best for children.

Stayed 2 nights in the Sunset Cottage that is connect with the Two Swan B&B. The best way to express the small cute cottage is "Doll Like". The 1st floor was small, but well appointed with chairs and a sofa to sit on as well as a small screen tv. The galley kitchen works well for a quick coffee/bagel type breakfast. The second floor has a nice queen size bed and a bath with a standup shower. The cottage has a front porch that faces the side of the Marina's boat business. You can't see the water from the front porch or the back porch which has a high top table to enjoy your coffee. You can however, walk about 1/2 block and sit on the lawn in the front of the Two Swan B&B which faces the St Michaels harbor. There was a nice breeze and a lovely view. You get nothing but the use of the cottage for your money. (no breakfast served in the cottages) Towels and bedding provided. It was a pleasant stay.

We just stayed here with are 2 young boys ( The Sygnet Cottage) and absolutely loved it. It's a wonderfull town and a great cottage. The location cannot be beat. Everything is walking distance. This place really has character and we would not hesitate to stay here again. You are smack in the middle of the historic district. It ( the cottage) is more of a vaction rental than a hotel but you have everything you need

The two of us escaped the big city to attend a friend’s wedding in St. Michaels. We searched high and low for an affordable yet nice place to stay. We arrived at the Two Swan and found a few cottages (some bigger than others) lining a small street which ended in the marina to an expansive view of the harbor. Cathy (Innkeeper) walked us up the street to show us the cottage that we would be staying, called "sunset". The cottage is striking at first glance because it had been restored to its near original appearance. After having some time to look around we found it to be very quaint and cozy. It was a reminder of how things used to be and probably still should be. It is a very clean and tidy two floor cottage with everything you need for a romantic getaway for two, including a fireplace. There are two private back porches to relax and listen to the sounds of harbor through the trees while drinking a glass of wine. I particularly enjoyed all of the little things around the house that showed historic value and American ingenuity. For instance, the sink in the bathroom was made from a re-purposed wooden Ironing board and the ceiling rafters are made from old ship boards. You can still see where the planks were nailed down.
The Two Swan is within walking distance of everything that St. Michael's has to offer. Cathy had plenty of literature on hand to give us a head start figuring out what we wanted to see. We stayed for 3 days, which we realized was not enough to enjoy all that was available. It felt like home away from home with a great adventurous twist.
Being along side of the Marina, you get to enjoy all of the sailing history up close and personal. A stroll down the pier revealed several beautiful sailing vessels. It just so happened, that there was a sailing event during our stay. We were able to see the crews of each sailing team and they were all very friendly as we walked among them. We saw how much work goes into sailing and racing these historic vessels as they aired and dried and repacked what seemed like endless bags of sails and wooden masts. These folks are dedicated to the long lived sailing traditions of St. Michaels. It is not every day that you get to see all of these things happen from your doorstep as you enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset from a rocking chair.
As evening arrives the town changes into a bustling nightlife scene. Everything from loud live music bars to quiet restaurants and even a few outdoor bistros are available. All within walking distance. There is plenty to do for all tastes and ages.
I must admit that I felt a little special as other tourists were walking around and we pulled into the driveway of our own cottage. If you want to get away and feel as though you have always lived in this quaint place.....you found it. For a change, I was not ready to go home when our stay was coming to an end… My wife and I wanted to stay. We will be back!

Room Tip: The "Sunset" is two floors....no doors. truly a couples place. I am not sure about the oth...

My husband and I, and another couple recently went to the antique boat show in St Michaels. We stayed in the Sail Shed of the 2 Swan Inn, which had 2 bedrooms, both with its own bathroom. The rooms are on either side of a small foyer, Each had its own small porch with 2 rocking chairs facing the water. The rooms were clean and comfortable, each had its own regular sized coffee maker and a small refrigerator. plates, cups and silverware also supplied. It was very relaxing to come back in the afternoon and sit in the chairs overlooking the river and marina. There is also a water taxi that stops at the end of the nearest dock and will take you to the local restaurants and bring you back later. The location cannot be beat, right on the water, yet 2 short blocks to the main street.
They also rent houses on the road to the main st, and there are 4 rooms in the Inn. No breakfast but there are lots of places nearby.

Cathy is the owner and is very wonderful and overlly helpful, it's the rest of it that wasn't good about the weekend trip to St. Michaels. Two Swan Inn is literally on the water (the main house), sharing water front with boaters, so you constantly have people trapsing all over the yard and it is hard to find parking due to them. No one actually lives at the main house (which is kept locked), so you have to call Cathy and she bikes up within a few minutes. The house is beautiful, very old. The downfall, there were spiders everywhere you looked. I killed three in the bathroom one night and more were back the next night. There was a dead one on the floor in the living room, I stupidly bent down to look at it and discovered much larger ones under one of the chairs and a massive nest.

There is no central air, but an A/C window unit is in each room. We stayed in the Longfellows room, it does has a private bath, but you have to walk a few feet in the hallway to get to it... beware, there are two steps down! I almost fell the first time walking in it. The room was rather large with a king size bed. The bed wasn't very comfortable, on the left side, it's slanted down. The location is great, you can walk everywhere. But, the town isn't too big, so you can pretty much walk everywhere no matter where you are staying.

The most important thing, this isn't a Bed and Breakfast, it's a Bed and Bath! For some reason, we still got charged $200 a night. I wish we would've stayed in a hotel.

FYI, breakfast at Key Lime Cafe was amazing!!! The wine at St. Michaels Winery wasn't anything spectacular. I've read reviews of the Chocolate Zin being amazing, and I couldn't even finish my taste, I had to pour it out. I tried almost all the wines they offer and found only a few worth the time to taste them. The brewery was fun, but no A/C (very hot/humid day!) and out of the five beers tasted, I really enjoyed the first one (forgot the name, sorry). We mainly traveled through the antique shops, which some great purchases were made! Highly recommend the Selina II sailboat tour, Captain Iris is amazing!!! We did the sunset cruise and it was phenomenal. Well worth the money ($195 for two, without tip).

I stayed at the Two Swan Inn for a nice, relaxing weekend away from the city. The Two Swan Inn was a perfect choice. Located right on the water, we lounged in the "front yard" that overlooked the harbor -- sitting in comfy Adirondack chairs or a hammock. The Inn was a short work to the main drag of shops, and a short walk to the Maritime museum and Crab Claw. They normally require a two-night stay. But we booked very last minute, and they were able to waive that requirement. The room was incredibly clean and well appointed - just what you'd expect at a Chesapeake B&B. My only complaint was the breakfast (and it's not a real complaint at all). It was a tasty continental-style breakfast served outside by the water, which was lovely. But I hear other B&Bs in the area offer a more comprehensive breakfast for the same price. But don't let that stop you from staying here. It's a great find for a great weekend away.

  • Liked — The location and the rooms can't be beat. Lovely, lovely stay.
  • Disliked — No real complaints.
