We visited Historic St Mary's City as part of a tour of southern Maryland and were somewhat disappointed. This is not Colonial Williamsburg. This is a few buildings in a field in a remote part of Maryland. The history is fascinating and well presented. We especially enjoyed the visit to the reconstruction of the Dove, one of the original ships landing here. Everything was well done, the docents well informed, and the historical markers interesting. But all in all, we found the site of fairly limited interest. The woman in the gift shop directed us across the road to St Mary's College for lunch, and we had a delightful lunch in the student dining hall.
