This is serious Italian food in a place run by two serious restauranteurs. I feel lucky that, for us, its a close-by neighborhood hangout, so we heat here quite regularly. If you simply want some pasta with red sauce, look elsewhere. Amici Miei has been offering authentic Italian fare with a nice selection of wines for years. A few years ago made it was listed among Washingtonian's top 100. (How it got knocked off that list when other mediocre cheap-eats favorites remain, is beyond me.) They have wonderful bread and enticing appetizers that include italian meats and cheeses and seafood. Among eh entrees the home made ravioli filled with veal with mushrooms and veal broth reduction is always good. Try the pasta topped with a lamb or veal ragout, or the whole fresh branzino (sea bass). Arugula salad topped with olive oil, lemon and fresh whole sardines. Grilled fish, beef short ribs brasied in red wine, rack of lamb, and occasionally rabbit. And they do have a selection of wood-fired thin pizzas. Its alwyas a pleasure to eat here.
