“Fantastic night at this unique Guest House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

I'd recommend the River Gem to anyone looking to stay on the Eastern Shore to visit any of the attractions in the area. The location is central to Pocomoke City and there are a wealth of actvities you can use the River Gem as a base for. The house itself is furnished to a superb standard befitting its historic status and our room was amazingly comfortable. The home cooking was superb and the owners went out of their way to amke us welcome. We arrived in two kayaks with camping equipment for a long trip and were assisted from the riverside and all the kit accommodated at the River Gem. Looking forward to staying at the River Gem again next time I visit the states.

My husband and I stayed in the Garnet Room this weekend and loved everything about our stay. The innkeepers' attention to detail is amazing with special touches like their own homemade soap In each bathroom. The guest rooms are spacious, clean and quite comfortabe and the Cafe has a warm and inviting atmosphere We were served a delicious and hearty breakfast of waffles with homemade walnut maple ice cream and bacon, oatmeal with a variety of toppings, raspberry scones, granola yogurt parfait, melon and blueberry compote, orange juice and tea or coffee. We enjoyed our visit so much that we plan on staying at the inn again in the fall as a stop over on the way to North Carolina.

Room Tip: The two front rooms have private baths.

It really is a gem tucked away in Pocomoke City. The innkeepers are fantastic, make you feel at home, and we did enjoy every bit of the gorgeous house.
We spent the weekend there with our sons, we live in Florida and our sons in NY, understanding our family reunion, Mona and the girls went above and beyond to make our experience especial.
Cannot forget to mention the fresh backed goodies and the wide selection of very special tees! Breakfast is very, very good...
We shall be back!

The River Gem is this gorgeous old house, tucked away in Pocomoke City, MD. It looks like everything a bed and breakfast should be, with rich fabrics, and old wooden furniture (except our old-world brass bed). It's quiet and cozy, but also romantic--it's sort of like stepping into a fantasyland. A fantasyland with awesome baked goods. The innkeepers are constantly making treats, which meant I was constantly eating treats. Some favorites: the brown-butter shortbread cookies that I devoured every time I passed through the breakfast room, the maple-pecan scones, and the waffles (which they somehow managed to talk me into having with ice cream for breakfast--I was on vacation!) Bring a book for reading on one of the many porches while you enjoy tea/coffee/wine--honestly, those low-key moments were the highlight of our trip.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Ruby Room, which was beautiful, but I peeked into a few other rooms and they all lo...

I have stayed at Littleton's under the previous ownership (also a delight) and did not think there was any way it could be improved, but to my very pleasant surprise it was even better. The food, rooms, and company were all perfect. I could recommend a stay here as a culinary experience alone!

I stayed at The River Gem in the Ruby room and had a wonderful time. The room was very clean, comfortable, and cozy and I slept like a baby.

When I arrived, I was greeted warmly and taken into the beautiful cafe for coffee, tea, homemade raspberry scones, candied almonds, and chocolate dipped apricots. So yummy! Breakfast was varied each day and I always walked away from the table with a full belly. Delicious fruit salad, scrambled eggs, fresh orange juice, sausage...Every day something new and tasty.

The owners are very nice and a pleasure to chat with. Very knowledgeable about the area and had a lot ideas for things to do.

Stay here for half the price of Chincoteague and take a day trip. Save money and stay in this cozy B&B!

Room Tip: The Ruby Room was cozy and had its own bathroom.

We went here as a first time trip to Maryland. Didn't make it out to Assateague and Chincoteague Island, so that'll have to be our next excuse out here!

The new ownership are absolutely people friendly, make the best breakfast in Maryland (including ingredients from the small garden out back), and are host to such wonderful ideas we got to help be test subjects for the future of the inn.

Ideas included but were not limited to: future yoga classes, music with the baby grand piano in the living room, and much more!

The rooms are spacious and the decor is lovely. The inn itself is only 5 minutes walk to the downtown river and town center.

They also help you explore around the quaint town of Pocomoke City, with nature museum and a deck allowing you to walk along the river during sunset. They even had a skatepark for the kids? Who would have known. We ate along the river for dinner most nights. Definitely a return visit in the future!
