Description: Once the home of Robert Morris who gained fame as "Financier of the Revolution". General and later President George Washington was a close friend and visited Robert Morris often. In more recent times author James Michener outlined his famous novel, Chesapeake here and fell in love with our renowned crab cakes. Now the Eastern Shore's most unique historic restaurant with rooms under celebrity Chef Proprietor, Mark Salter and Ian Fleming.Enter the Inn and step back 300 years: a pristine yet historic interior welcomes with timber beams, panelled walls and open fires in the cooler months. Through to Salter's Tavern featuring historic red brick walls and old slate floors, with magnificent fires in the cooler months and offering casual outside dining on our Terraces and Veranda during balmy warm summers. This is a truly historic Inn, cosy with a natural patina running through. Friendly, great cuisine and understated professional service.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

The food is wonderful, and so is the staff. We just had a small wedding dinner there, and it could not have been any better.

“Wasn't even going to review, but when it popped up.....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

"Best Crabcake" my foot. The rooms are modest (that's being very fair) and the food is acceptable, but hardly worth the accolades on the internet or the prices. We had an encounter with a woman who claimed to be the owner, and I have to say that our conversation with her left a huge black mark on the entire visit...very arrogant, ego centric, and just....well....snooty.

Not quite sure how to respond but it looks like a terrible encounter with a very unpleasant and rude lady owner actually prevented you from visitng the Inn at all! This is all very confussing as the owners are myself Ian Fleming and Chef Mark Salter, we are both male, do our best to be pleasant and approachable and are usually to be found on property at the Inn. “One of the best choices on the Eastern Shore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Just returned from a week-end in Oxford where we had two meals at the Robert Morris Inn...dinner was very good, with excellent crab cakes, truly deserving of their reputation...today's brunch was delicious too: Lovely eggs Benedict, fluffy fresh muffins, etc. Service was competent and friendly. One of our favorite places on the Eastern Shore...

“Great location and history”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

Went here with some friends for lunch after taking the ferry from St. Michaels. We sat indoors in this historic building, but there is also seating outside. I had the fish and chips (made with flounder), which were just ok. Everyone else in our party seemed to find their food acceptable, but no one really raved about their meal. Lots of history here, so it's worth eating here just for the experience.

Many thanks for visitng us and reviewing our Tavern. At over 300 years old this is a pretty unique place in a very historic and peaceful town. Delighted you enjoyed it overall and disapointed you did not enjoy the flounder. Wild Rockfish are too variable in availablity and price and we will only use local and wild fish. The flounder comes to us from the lower Chesapeake, fresh and flavorsome. We do hope we can welcome you back soon. Mark & Ian

Enjoyed the breakfast this trip and visited nearby cities for dinner. Dinners at the Robert Morris have been great on previous trips.
