“Excellent service and views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

Stayed at Sandaway 1 night of Memorial Day weekend 2012 and wished we could have stayed longer. We had a reservation at another hotel in town but arrived for check-in after 10.00pm and were locked out of the hotel. I called several other hotels and they were the only ones that answered that late at night (Oxford is a very small town). Ben, the Innkeeper at Sandaway, was incredibly helpful despite the fact that I was probably waking him up. He offered us a room at a discounted rate and was extremely friendly and accommodating. We stayed in one of the cottages and though the decor is slightly dated, the rooms are clean and the waterfront views are amazing! Totally worth it. Beautiful location on the water in a cute town and wonderful personal customer service.

I was happy to find a room for you at Sandaway. Sorry you got locked out of the other hotel. I was on call that night and prepared to handle requests for rooms. It was nice to meet you all the next morning. Thanks for your review, and I hope you can enjoy many more waterfront views in the future.

Safe travels,

We recently visited Oxford, MD and the Sandaway for the second time. The weather was perfect, the sunsets glorious, our room overlooking the Tred-Avon was spacious and comfortable, the view spectacular. We swam off the private beach, kayaked practically out of the front door, were able to walk to some excellent nearby dining along quiet streets filled with beautiful homes. Oxford and the Sandaway really transport you to a relaxed and stress free place. The Sandaway is a treasure, well worth the price, we will definitely be returning.

We needed a quiet weekend to spend together in place that was new to us, but fairly close to home. The Sandaway was the perfect place. Everything was just lovely. Absolutely beautiful cozy room/porch (recommend the 2nd floor!) and wonderful lawn/beach area to relax and socialize with other guests. The lite fare breakfast delivered to room each morning was really a really nice touch (we never bothered to go out for breakfast). The Innkeeper, Ben, was very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed meeting other guests at our own pace. The location of the Inn is perfect for relaxing on the lawn and watching the boats go by or taking the ferry over to St. Michael's. Be sure to check out the birch tree! The Gibson Family has done a wonderful job with their place. We ate at Latitude 38 and Schooners for our dinners and highly recommend both places.

Thanks for letting us know Sandaway was the perfect place for your quiet weekend getaway. The second floor waterfront rooms with private porches are some of our most popular accommodations. It is nice to learn you enjoyed your lite fare breakfast baskets and meals in Oxford. We appreciate your review and hope to see you again in Oxford, Maryland.

We found this B&B on a groupon, and thank goodness we had the good sense to buy it. Since we got such a great buy, we decided to stay another night. Again, a great decision, one day would never have been enough. This B&B is enriched with old world elegance, but comfort. The first floor water view suite, was clean, comfortable but elegant, and a very relaxing place to stay. We had a beautiful view of the Choptank river right from our bed. There is also a screened poor attached to the front, which provides you with a beautiful relaxing place, but also offers your suite privacy without having to close every shade. The extra large bathroom with the stall shower and claw foot tub was a bonus, that I took full advantage of. I thought the basket breakfast would fall short, but I was wrong. It was a pleasure to have breakfast delivered to our door, filled with little goodies and wholesome foods. What a delight to stay in bed. There is also a common room that has a TV, coffee makers, and full of free snacks and drinks. You will also find books and table games They do have a deal with a very close restaurant, if you choose to have a full breakfast. We did this one morning and was very pleased with the breakfast. The grounds are beautiful and comfortable lawn shares abound as you relax watching the river go by. The Sandaway is in a wonderful location that is walk friendly. This is a quiet little town, but be warned if you are looking for night life, this is not the place for you. The towns of Easton and St Michaels are a short ride, or ferry ride away, to entice you with wonderful shops, interesting history and museums, and wonderful restaurants. I look forward to traveling back to this inn.

Room Tip: If you have trouble with stairs, ask for a ground floor suite.

We (couple in our 60s) want to highly recommend The Sandaway. We spent a wonderful weekend relaxing on the waterfront and thoroughly forgot the DC area pace. The Gibsons provide a welcoming and enjoyably complete experience from arrival to checkout. A guest can see the personal attention they gave in making their B&B a setting that is easy to get used to and one that is hard to leave. Their touch shows in many ways, from wonderfully appointed and romantic rooms to guest comfort items such as waterfront lawn chairs, snacks and coffee in easy to access locations throughout the property's buildings, reading materials, parking, etc. The property is beautifully situated to peacefully view the river and even sit on the river's edge to watch boats in the channel, fish jumping, and feel the breeze, but close to several restaurants and the day ferry. TIP: Choose the Tuckaway Cottage if available. It’s more private and even more romantic. TIP: The “lite fare” offered as breakfast is substantial and includes coffee, juice, yogurt, rolls and muffins, all one needs to stay in bed and eat breakfast leisurely, like you’re on vacation!

Room Tip: Enjoy a breakfast, lunch and or dinner at the Robert Morris Inn for casual but great dining!
