“Go somewhere else”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012 via mobile

This place is terrible - they messed up our reservation when we went there previously, but we decided to try it again last night. Big mistake. They messed up our food, half of the food wasnt even that good, and then they wouldn't serve my cousin a drink to have with dessert because her Florida license is vertical instead of horizontal. When we spoke with the manager and then the owner, not only were the unapologetic, but they started yelling at us in the middle of the restaurant! Like my 50 year old parents were trying to pull something over on them! Ridiculous. Save yourself the time, money, and headache and go somewhere else.

“It's just average, but has potential”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Went to Grill Marx last night with family and friends. I had very high expectations, having heard many good things about it. However, in my opinion, it was just average. Additionally, it had several rough spots that need to be smoothed out. For example, our party had 8:30 p.m. reservations, and we arrived 10 minutes early. Upon checking in at the hostess desk, we were told to come back at 8:30. At the appointed time we again checked with the hostess and were told there would be an additional wait because they had given our reserved table to another party by mistake. After a short wait, we were taken to our table. This was not a big deal, but it could have been handled better.

The ambiance is pretty nice -- lots of dark wood, brick walls, very high ceilings, good lighting, and a large open kitchen. However, near the bar area, the noise level was extremely high -- too loud to have a conversation without shouting. It was a little quieter, but not much, at our table near the kitchen.

The food was good, but nothing spectacular. I had the mushroom-stuffed ravioli dish, and it was good. One thing to note is that the salads are good and they are huge; each salad could easily serve three people (as a side dish to an entree). The salads are pretty pricey at $15.00; perhaps they should consider serving half that amount at a lower price. No one in our party had a hamburger, but they did look delicious and are definitely on my wish list for next time.

The service was friendly, but inefficient and slow. We ordered wine and tried to get the attention of our waitress to place an additional drink order and to order our entrees. After 15 minutes of trying, I had to track down the waitress to tell her we hadn't received our wine, which had been poured and was sitting on the bar, and that we were ready to order additional drinks and entrees. The service improved noticeably after that.

The prices are pretty high, but we will give this place another try because it has potential (and because there is not much competition in Olney).

“Grill Marx: Our "go to" restaurant in Olney”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

After numerous visits to Grill Marx in Olney Md, I felt compelled to add my accolades . This is our "go to " restaurant: great food, wonderful sevice. Minor criticism : noise level particularly toward the back part of the site (near the kitchen}. The chef has more than once prepared something special for us (husband and I can not eat any desserts with sugar). Chef has prepared some delicious desserts with sugar substitute. Have NEVER had any problem with reservations. Prices are fair for the quality of the food and for the portions. It is so wonderful to have a restaurant of this caliber in Olney!!

“Terrible management of reservations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Had a reservation for Saturday evening, arrived half hour early. Forty minutes after reservation time, still had not been seated. We were told the table was being cleaned, however when scanning the resturant, there were no tables open to handle our party. Having been here numerous times, after a year and a half of operations, the service is still terrible. The food can be good, but the bar is over packed with obnoxious patrons. Go at a non- prime time, definitely not for a celebration when you expect to get seated appropriately. Just didnt seemed like they cared if you had a reservation or walkin. If they cant manage turning the tables, the restaurant will face the same fate as Houstons.
